Thailand praised by foreigners for helping tourists left stranded due to COVID

Many foreigners stranded in Thailand have nothing but praise for the Thai authorities.

They have suggested that foreign nations like the US, UK and European Union could learn from Thailand's humanitarian approach to its visitors.

They thanked the country and said they would be back for sure.

The translated comments came on the Facebook page of Krabi governor ML Kitibadee Prawit and relate to the treatment of foreigners on Phi Phi island in particular.

The foreigners praised Thailand for handing out free masks, hand gel and not charging for temperature checks. If they got Covid-19 they would get free treatment in hospitals, they said.

The Thais were giving out two meals a day and had extended "visa exemption" (in reality an extension) to all people until July.

This was accompanied by flags of the US, EU and UK along with the question:

What is more modern (Thailand or the west)?

Maybe what constitutes a "developed" nation needs to be redefined.

Other pictures showed happy foreign tourists on Phi Phi with signs saying "We Care - We Share" the message being that Thailand has cared not just for its own people but all visitors too.

Meanwhile, Daily News also reported that teams led by the local district chief were touring the Railey and Tonsai bay areas looking for people who might have contracted the virus.

It's a pity that the expats that live here cannot say the same !

How much has T.A.T. paid them?

Or are they under the influence of something.

Another point are they praising the government, or Thai locals?

Free masks and hand gel, as i stated before, my wife was told masks etc were only for Thais, not farangs.

Yep, looks totally spontaneous. I think I'll file this one away with the "good Samaritan taxi driver" stories.

Amazing that they were carrying laptops and a printer around to be able to print off those signs spontaneously

the story is total garbage

yes I know quite a few Thais who are very compasionate and helpful but it certainly isn't the norm, they mostly want something

These arranged photo shoots are presumable to counteract all the stories of resident expats helping Thais.

... LOL, straight outta CCPs storybook ...??

How come local Thai's never praise the helping foreigners???..???... And if they did, how come they don't get any media coverage?

that's news to me. The government here has repeatedly said foreigners who come down with CV will be responsible for their own medical bills.

Because it's expected from a Rich farang to help Poor Thais :wai:

I know a good number of falangs and Thais that have helped people, little old me included ????

Give poor backpackers free food (it is phi phi right) and obviously they will talk like it is The Beach movie.
Wonder if those backpackers are aware of the suicides and corruption over the 5K welfare.

When tourists really needed help at the beginning there was nothing . No extensions for those who couldn’t get or couldn’t afford the outrageous prices being charged for returning home. Instead we were left to guess what might happen while we watched flight after flight being cancelled and top airlines scratching their whole operations. It was terrifying . My kid bailed me out by booking a one way flight back to Dublin for €1500 ! Thank god I was able to reimburse him when I got home . All the “ help” came too late. As my kid said !, Dad , you would have died in those queues for immigration where you had to have 7/8/9 .. can’t rember ..documents and no social distancing .and me over 70 with diabetes,  in the beginning . No... too late to redeem yourselves .

Yes I could see the wai's of thanks at the immigration offices !!!

Surprised to see so many negative comments. I have been here for months, the same every year, for quite a few years. It is so relaxed here, enjoying a lot. There is no a perfect place in this world. And the always complaining bunch of farangs has got a choice, they can go back to their countries, problem solved.

Guess you not often read this forum.

Negative comments is the default standard here, regardless of what the topic might be.

Better get used to it

to be honest for about 2 years i thought the majority of thais were okish but the longer you stay the more you learn, not all are bad, but a fair amount are racist, and that seems to be drilled into them from childhood,

then you have the Army in charge, and in the end you realize that if you jump through all the hoops and spend a fair bit of money they put up with Farangs.
