Trump says he could bring back fired ex-national security adviser Flynn

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday he would consider bringing his fired former national security adviser Michael Flynn, a key figure in the probe into Russia's interference in the 2016 election, back into his administration.

 

The president's comments, the latest in a string of remarks about Flynn, go beyond prior suggestions by Trump that the retired general could be in line for a presidential pardon.

 

"I would certainly consider it, yeah. I think he's a fine man," Trump told reporters, without specifying which role he might give to Flynn.

 

Flynn pleaded guilty to making false statements in a charge brought by then-Special Counsel Robert Mueller. He is now insisting he did not lie and wants to back out of the plea.

 

Internal FBI documents turned over by the Justice Department on Wednesday showed FBI officials debated whether and when to warn Flynn that he could face criminal charges as they prepared for a January 2017 interview with him in the Russia probe.

 

Trump blamed Flynn's predicament on "dirty cops" and said the documents show Flynn was a victim.

 

"He's in the process of being exonerated. If you look at those notes from yesterday, that was total exoneration," Trump said.

 

Flynn left his White House position after only 24 days when he was found to have misled Vice President Mike Pence about his discussions with Russia's then-ambassador to the United States Sergei Kislyak. Trump said in 2017 that he fired Flynn because he had lied to Pence and the FBI.

 

Pence said during a trip to Indiana on Thursday that Flynn's actions may have been unintentional.

 

"I'm deeply troubled by the revelations of what appeared to have been investigative abuse by officials in the Justice Department. And we're going to continue to look into that very carefully," Pence said.

 

"My respect for General Flynn personally for his service to the country is undiminished. And I am inclined more than ever to believe that what he communicated to me back during the transition leading to our inauguration, that was unintentional and not - and that he was not attempting to misrepresent facts," he said.

The Flynn case is going to have major repercussions.  This article is pure propaganda because it restates much of the initial circumstances involving the case while not delving into any of the bombshell findings of the past week which show as the bottom line:

 

Flynn was set up by the U.S. government.

Are you a national security criminal lawyer, have you read the documents? At this moment in time appears trump is going down his usual path of nepotism and undermining the Rule of Law for political purposes.

I wouldn't expect you to know any of the massive amount of details coming out in this case in the recent past.  As you can see, there's no reporting on any of it.  Educate yourself before you reply.

 

MSM have covered the flynn saga, plus recent events, so your claim makes no sense to me. Accordingly, educate me. As usual you haven't linked to your credible source/s to back up your claims  - which BTW is a basic requirement for forum members.

You have often demonstrated your wide array of knowledge on many different subjects, apparently American law is not one of your strong points. I do not know(or care) what country you come from but In The United States we do do not endorse entrapment nor do we endorse people being forced to lie in order to prevent a family member from being prosecuted on unrelated charges. 

So, no the case is definitely not closed, and unfortunately for the Obama administration itis not going away.

America is tearing itself to pieces, with Trump as the catalyst. The posts by Americans on this thread are proof of that. Talk about giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

I didn’t mention guilt, I did mention direct contact with Putin.

 

The sooner incompetent, lying Trump is in jail with him and the US goes back to being respected in the world instead of being laughed at as a pariah state, the better for everyone.

Not true. it is only considered entrapment when the only purpose of the act is to generate a charge of false witness. In this case, as part of the deal, Flynn agreed to provide further information that the prosecutors were seeking in their criminal investigation. Flynn subsequently reneged on the deal, for which he was roundly castigated by the judge in the case.

That's your problem.  Neither the NYT, WaPo or any other MSM outlets are reporting on it.  If those are your only sources then it wouldn't be possible for you to know of recent events surrounding Flynn's case.  That's kinda a "duh."
