What's the longest period of the silent mood you've experienced?

Question for people with Thai wives or girlfriends - inspired by the 'Why are Thai girls so violent' thread, which seemed to conclude that they are generally not violent (my experience too), but they are masters of the extended silent sulk.

I experienced a 5 day marathon silent period, which I think may have been quietly extended as I didn't notice the first two days.

I've also learned there's no point asking what's wrong, but as there's no interruption to other services there's no real need to either.

But what's the longest silent treatment you've experienced, and did any TV member ever find out the cause?

Please share your experiences and tips.

What is this "silent sulk" and how can I get it?   I've been married 19 years and still waiting for her to shut up.

  • An old old joke :    I didn't realize my wife was dead for over a week.   The sex was the same but the dishes began to pile up

Two years. Does it count if we were not living together at the time?

About a week. To get my own back, I gave her a week of my own.

2 days but I did screw up bad. If I said sorry first day would have fixed it probably.

I still screw up but say to her "can I say sorry"

????????????????

I can't say this would work for everyone but after the first time, which to be honest only lasted until the next morning when she just acted as if nothing had happened (quite common apparently), I decided I couldn't be doing with it.

The next time I told her I was leaving, call me when you are prepared to talk.  She let me pack, even walk out of the building but the phone rang 5 minutes later.

A week .. She stormed off the beach when we were in Cha'am .. and the sneaky cow went and took the motorbike back to the renter to cop the deposit .. So I bussed it to Patt's ignoring the txt's over the following days until a week had gone before replying 'her eventually turning up in Patt's .. Over the following fortnight she did the same twice again , throw a strop , storm off then try the txt'ing approach to get back in .. the 2nd occasion being cos I wanted the aircon at 24c and she wanted 23 and cos I kept the remote she went and slept on the floor .. like they do .. A nice peach doesn't make up for the petulance , death stares and ear bashing you get from them sometimes ..

The Mrs is not the argument type, so she does the silent treatment,  2 day's is the most. Only been married.. what's the time now....

Congratulations!

From my experience the length of the silent spells increases in proportion with how long you've been married, but as she wont say what you've done wrong anyway, just ignore them and they go away.

I think the Thai husbands approach is to visit the 'gik' until it blows over, but that may be why most Thai marriages last about 3 weeks.

We both prefer to talk things out.  Maybe that is why we are still happy after 23 years.????????

If we have a disagreement, she always talks to me the next time she sees me even if it is within about an hour, she is just not the type for moody silences.

If you think about it the "silent mood" must be a real sign of unhappiness. You can't or don't want to even talk about it

Any time there is silence from a Thai woman it is 99.9999% about money.

Either personal financial problems or invariably a phone call from the boonies begging for cash

5 months 3 weeks and 2 days, pure bliss.

I envy those who get the silent treatment, all I can manage is a filthy stare and constant Thai being muttered.

But my wife does give great Head Ache :whistling:

About 10 minutes, after that I'm off out to the nearest bar/massage place for a bit of strange.

The 'silent treatment' is reserved for weak, easily manipulated men.

In Thailand a woman is instantly replaceable (usually with a younger model), never let them forget it.

Good point, but my own experience is that the run up to the family financial request is preceded by extra cooking, extra foot massages and extra noisy sex, followed by a marathon silence after I say no.

About 3 days from mine, with a few periods of between 1 and 2 days.

Mentioned it to a friend of mine, his maximum was 2 weeks.

Other times though my partner talks too much, mostly childish nonsense.

Actually wouldnt mind 1 day on 1 day off.

If only there was a switch I could turn on and off.

A pair of headphones solves both problems.

(Hint: you don't actually need to listen to anything, just wearing them works, even if not plugged into anything)
