Our condo is adhering to the current BMA Order of Temporary Closure of Premises (No.8) issued on 2 May 2020 by the Governor of Bangkok.

Item 1.10 lists Public swimming pools or similar venues as "Temporarily Closed Premises".

 

Some condos are choosing to interpret this differently, on the basis that they are not public, despite the fact that a condominium has by definition multiple owners and their families living in them, and the exercise facilities are in a common area.

 

A simple call to 1555 gets the same explanation: condo pools are to remain closed.

I have been in touch with the CDC in Bangkok and they state that the re-opening of condo pools is "under consideration". For those interested in trying to achieve this, may I suggest a call to CDC on either 02-590 3832 or 02-590 3836. They are very helpful, and are interested in hearing suggestions from the public, which can be presented to their review process.

 

What I have stressed with them is:

1) the apparent evidence of Covid-19 being destroyed in properly chlorinated pools*

2) the lack of consistency in allowing some activities and venues to re-open

3) a misconception about "use of pool" meaning encouraging social gathering, versus a means to exercise only

4) different interpretations of of an unclear directive

I expect (hope) there will be some restrictions also such as social distancing, frequent cleaning, limit the number of swimmers in pool at the same time, strict monitoring of chlorine levels etc.   Pools historically are notorious for outbreaks of all kinds of diseases and most commonly root cause was from improper or malfunctioning disinfection system.

 

Yes, chlorine can kill viruses but how long does it take to kill all the viruses/bacteria in a brown floaty, chunks in vomit, snot or blob of flem?    Yuk.
