QR code

Featured Replies

is it the same QR code for all stores or do you need to get one for every store?

I don't have to get a QR code, but each establishment participating in this contact tracing scheme has to get its individual code and the customers entering the premises must scan the code with the app that the government makes available for this purpose. At least this is how I understand that it is meant to work.

Forgive a dinosaur, but do I need to download the app to use the QR code and do I need an internet connection when entering a mall?

A serious question here.....

What if some one only went through the motions of scanning a QR code....?? Just asking for a friend...

Looks like being rolled all over now, BigC, Tops, Lotus, 7/11 according to Richard Barrow. Good luck attracting tourists back.

You give me YOUR phone number and I'll give it to everyone at the mall.

surely all you need to do is show you have the contact tracing app installed when you enter the mall, no need to show/register in every shop... or am i missing something?

if you have the app and get a message you have been in contact with an infected person is anyone going to check that you are isolating yourself for 14 days or is it based on trust?

You didn't consider this to be permanent, did you?

By the time tourists are allowed to enter Thailand again, this will be long be dumped and forgotten already, my guess is within a week or 2 from now.

Police will knock at your door, and escort you to the hospitel center, particularly if you happen to be a foreigner.

Hope you are right.

Ridiculous disinformation again.

In many cases they don't even have the name of the phone number owner !

Someone registered your phone number with a Thai ID or a Passport, maybe your passport.

They're coming for you now.

I bought a SIM card in Tukcom Pattaya in January, and no document at all was required, just money. From what I know, it's same thing in many 7/11.

Many shops will register you only if you ask for it  ????

how will they know my address? if i have to input my address on the app what check is there that the address is correct?

and anyway, are the authorities really that organised?

I will just walk away. There is absolutely nothing I want, in any place that requires this, that I cannot get somewhere else.

Well, supposedly they will get your phone number, then from there passport number, then TM30 and knock knock.

I don't know how organised they are, but this is how contact tracing works no?

Isolate everybody that happened to be in the wrong 7-eleven at the wrong time. Or supermarket. Or mall.

I might be mistaken, but I think in China your colour health code changes, from green to yellow, under such circumstance.

What happens when one doesn't have a suitable phone?  Name and phone number are all that is necessary in the event of an infection.

What is likely, IMO, is that businesses are looking to sell information on customers. Expect loads of unwanted advertising spam.

One solution is to load up a trolley and refuse to give more than name and phone number at check out. See how dogmatic they are then!

Yes, I saw that too, but you can't compare: In China it's an app; In Thailand it's just a QR  code that redirects you on a website.

Went to two 7/11s this morning (Monday), no QR or paper tracking. Yesterday, however, a huge crowd in front of Central Ladphrao where you need to scan/fill in a form (the latter for those that do not have/want to use a smart phone or have no data) in order to enter. No need to download an app (actually I think only store owners can do that), when you scan a code somewhere it should direct you automatically to either the website of the store or the general ThaiChana website where you then fill in a tel. number.
