Soi Dog Foundation responds to reports of dog poisonings in Cherng Talay

PHUKET:-- Soi Dog Foundation is working closely with Cherng Talay Police following two recent reports of deliberate dog poisonings in the area.

The first report came in April after a missing dog was found dead at a rubber plantation with her leg tied to a tree and food laced with rodenticide at her side. The owner, a local resident, reported that this was not the first time his dog had been poisoned. However, in the first instance, he was able to seek veterinary attention in time. It is believed that the dog was tied to the tree in the second instance to hinder her escape.

The second report came in early May from a foreign woman whose dog began salivating excessively after eating from a bag of chicken placed at the side of the road. The dog was rushed to a veterinary clinic where it was confirmed that the chicken was laced with pesticides. Fortunately, the dog was treated in time and survived.

Some Thais like to kill dogs with rat poison . It is a horrible and cruel death for the dog .

They poisoned my old dog and he died in my arms . For no reason , just to teach the farang a ' lesson ' .

I would like to make the same with them ...

Horrible people ...

Good morning Yinn .

I know who did it .

My dog was poisoned while I was eating in a restaurant on the beach .

It was Thai people who did that .

I should have gone to Police , I did not do this , I was stupid .

I just ignore these people now and wish them all bad luck as long as they live ...

BTW , just went there yesterday , their Restaurant has been half taken away by some big waves , the place looks abandoned now ...

It is the fault of Thais for sure, because Thais let the dogs run wild and of course people living in the area get extremely annoyed with lose dogs attacking their wives and children, and them, while cycling or walking.

If Thais kept their dogs in a responsible way in an enclosed area the dogs would not have been poisoned.

However, they just let dogs run around wild, unsupervised. So the dogs become a huge nuisance to many people. It is unsurprising some people, Thai or Farang, snap and had enough.

The fault lies with irresponsible Thai dog owners.

In 2016, between 592,255 and 866,366 street dogs were euthanized in the US.

That is a lot humaner then letting them loose on the streets to die and become a danger

to people.

You say Thai Buddhists do not like to kill dogs.I say i see dogs being killed by Thai people often.

You are also saying if someone would poison your dog revenge must be paid.

I would think you are not a very good Thai Buddhist then?

If the Soi Dog foundation wants to do the right thing, euthanise humanely every dog running loose so it won't be killed inhumanely.

Soi dogs are not a good thing.

Exactly. This problem could be so easily solved, in Europe dogcatchers are paid to catch lose dogs. That way the public is safe.

Dogs are known to suffer from rabies. They have also been infected with Covid19 and can most likely spread it. If the Thai government were serious about the welfare of its people lose dogs would be caught.

Easily done, creates jobs for Thais. But as usual, do nothing is easier. Always do nothing. It's the Thai way.

Not racist. True. Farang country kill the dog a lot. Thai Muslim kill the dog a lot.

Thai Buddhist not like kill the dog. For what?

Please explain why thats not racist? It is the epitome of racism. A Thai is a Thai no matter what religion.

More German people have covid than Thai dog.

Should we catch and German people?

This is the Thai view at least of many people here. Let the dogs do what they want. I once got bitten by one in the middle of Pattaya. I got threatened by dogs here many times. I hear already the dog lovers - for sure it was you fault and whatever to justify the freedom of dogs. These people are not better than the dogs. They don't care about the health of other people. I can't imagine that this can be justified with any idea of Buddhism.

But kill dog is religion subject, not race subject.

christain and Muslim no problem kill the dog. Buddhist not like kill animal, only for food.

That's of course total nonsense. If Thais were perfect Buddhists there would be no murders or thefts in Thailand, nor sexual conduct that is unacceptable.

Unfortunately Thais do not abide by Buddhist morality at all times. Thais are very good at being perfect Buddhists and being very polite when other people are watching. When nobody is watching, as neighbours or drivers, they're completely different.

If a dog attack human, somebody in the village will

a) kill it

b) move it.

99% dog is nice and friendly. Lovely.

1% crazy. Less than human. (About 5%) Dogs not use alcohol and Yaba.

More humans kill and attack humans than dog kill/attack human. Sure. Every country.

Kill all the humans? Stupid.

Anyway, I busy now. IMO is terrible to kill a dog. Some not agree.

Remember if you kill my dog....

have a happy day.

Soil dogs are a disgrace, wild dogs roaming the streets? Sad.

in Vietnam it's the same as the west, they have pets and treat them like their children, same as falang. I told some Vietnamese people about the soi dogs in Thailand, they simply couldn't beleive it, who looks after them they said? It's the same as the west, it would never happen, Every time I see a soi dog I shake my head, I hate them, mongrels, and I'm a dog lover. How can a race of people let this happen? A reflection on the people.

A bit racist this early? While we are here, don't you think there are Thai Muslims?

It should be remembered that Muslims are simply following the example of their Prophet, who repeatedly ordered the killing of dogs.  For example:

Allah's Apostle ordered that the dogs should be killed. (Bukhari 4:540)

Allah's messenger ordered the killing of dogs. (Muslim 3814)

(He made an exception for hunting dogs and for dogs guarding flocks and crops.)

So, this is not racist, but Islamophobic:  Muslims should not be criticised for following their religion.

Soi dogs are not a good thing.

There are not many organisations that are willing to actually tackle a problem only to end up without work for themselves. They have no incentive to solve the soi dog problem cause that would mean the end of their organisation.

Soi dogs are not a good thing.

One of the last charities I'd ever donate to.  Love dogs and all other animals, but aggressive and/or unrestrained dogs have no place among people.  Must be hundreds of dog attacks every day throughout the country. Not just on people but even more common for family pets of responsible owners.

Conflating issues.  Might as well make a case to ban all vehicles as they kill a lot of people (far more than by murder).

seriosuly doubt that only 1% are aggressive, but even if that were true, it still means tens of thousands of uncontrolled aggressive dogs roaming the streets.  That is a serious problem any way you look at it.

It's not so much "let this happen", but "cause this to happen".

Far too many families here buy a cute puppy and don't train it.  Once it stops looking cute enough, or it starts misbehaving, it's discarded to live on the streets.

Proper dog licensing and chipping could help address the problem, but this being Thailand that would never be enforced.

In the meantime organisations such as the SDF are faced with continued replenishment of the street dog population, making their sterilisation work less effective at controlling the population.

Yes , all the usual stuff ...

I never had a problem with soi dogs , if some are barking at me , I talk friendly with a soft , non aggressive voice to them ... they calm down almost instantly .

But they feel if you are scared of them ...

Only ever got bitten once , when 2 males have been fighting and I tried to separate them ...

But people ... they look at your face and are lying , when you turn your back , they steal all they can get .

Some can kill you for just the few bahts you have in your pocket or a 'loss of face ' ...

My dogs love me , I know that ... my wife of 25 yrs loves me , at least I think so ...

But to trust somebody I do not know very well and for along time ... never .

Good people and bad people everywhere , in every country ... only the good ones became more rare these days ...

You would be guilty of negligence allowing

a 3 year old near dogs.
