Department of Land Transport: New Normal Driving License Test

BANGKOK(NNT) - The Department of Land Transport or DLT has reopened its service providing driving license tests. However, on this the first day, the atmosphere was quiet. The process of obtaining a driving license application involves observing public health measures. The department limits the number of applicants in the building at any one time, and the first served are those applicants who booked a place earlier.

After the Department of Land Transport opened its driving license test service today, for those who had made a reservation via the DLT Smart Queue application, it found that all the applicants gradually arrived for their test at the time they had booked. In front of the Department of Land Transport building, officers were present to give advice on various procedures to the visitors. Before going into the building the visitors had to have their body temperature checked and wash their hands with hand sanitizer.

Mr. Jirut Wisanjit, Director-General of DLT said later that there were no difficulties on the first day of service because of the reservation system, and the applicants being given an hour online for study before taking the test. Only 400 people are admitted each day, and there’s an hourly limit of 40 people to avoid congestion. In addition, all visitors must wear face masks.

DLT offices are now open for pre-booked applicants who have applied without needing a driving test, such as those renewing a driving license. The driving test service will start on 22nd of June.

As for people who have never booked or applied before, the queue is now fully booked. A new round of bookings will start on the 1st of July with all kinds of tests and services available to customers.

New Normal Driving License Test

Just do what most did for the 'old normal' driving licence test..............................Don't do it, just drive !

It's not a driving on the road test though is it, which it should be, just 3 manouvers in a car park. Many cannot even do all of those and have to come back, or buy their way through. Sadly the powers that be still scratch their heads about how to get the carnage of road deaths down ????

About time that they restart.

Waiting for state of "emergency" to be lifted could become a looong story.

My wife's license has expired and she now needs to redo all the test (so it's a one or two day process) Over a year now and she's been unable to get a booking in or around our province. And they wonder why people drive without a license.

  1. Alien 365 should not blame the system his wife was slack by letting her licence expire when she could have renewed it prior to expiry.

She should have yes but she didn't. What I'm highlighting is that she wants a valid license again but can't get an appointment. We complain that a lot of people here don't have licenses but if the system can't handle the number of people requesting licenses then the system is also at fault. This 'new normal' will only exacerbate the problem.

Yes it’s a total mess. Both my licenses - motorbike and car have expired and there is no way you can get into the online cue. The application will not accept your passport number which is also printed on your driving license - the online application accepts only the 13 digit Thai ID card numbers.

I want to use the DLT office in Cha-Am.  I have a 5 year TDL issued at Pran Buri just

south of Hua Hin / Cha-Am.  I understand you can get or renew a TDL at any office.

I suppose I'll need a proof of address from HHIO (Hua Hin Immigration Office).  Five

years ago this cost me 1-000 Thai baht.

How do I book a 5 year licence renewal at Cha Am?

Opposite Santorini Park (other side of main road heading back to Cha Am) government offices.

yep, my Mrs same issue - but in bangkok

I'm a bit cynical, but let me guess, it is no longer allowed to sleep in the classroom while showing the movies.

Cha, cha, they are waiting for the second wave of covid 19.

Explains, why 10 out of 31 million drivers apparently roam the country's grid of death tolls without the said license. I've been doing this renewal for decades, had my driving license taken in Europe with a change of tires, fitting snow chains and explaining basics like battery acid levels, engine oil levels etc. to the expert, followed by a two hours physical driving test. All that only after 20 hours of actual training with a driving teacher and upon completion of a 80 questions theory test.

This year the DLT clowns though, it would be a good idea to put me together with first license applicants and hence I could enjoy not one but two hours of silly videos; not any of the participants paid attention after a few minutes and resorted to smart phones, two on books and four on a more intelligent mid-morning nap.

Time and resource wasting of the finest order!
