What to do if you find a possible bomb? Kick it around and scare your friends!

A municipal drain cleaner who found a suspected explosive device in a bag at a rubbish dump decided to have some fun.

Suriyapong, 43, told Sanook he wasn't sure whether it was real or fake. So he kicked it a few times and playfully tossed it at his work colleagues.

"Luckily it didn't go off," he said.

Bomb disposal experts were called to the Pak Nam area of Muang Rayong and determined that it was a K60 mortar.

Police had put it in a car tire and put a barrier a couple of feet away as protection.

It appeared to be a dud but could still explode said a bomb disposal expert who added that you would need to stand 20 meters away when it was blown apart and rendered safe.

Well, clearly he isn't the brightest spark.

I imagine his friends are very happy with him, or maybe they just kicked it back and laughed too.

It was a cobalt bomb, the slang name for the radioactive source in an x-ray type machine.

I hope they used the GT200 bomb detector to make sure it wasn't fake.

It would have been more appropriate if it had been BANGsean.

There's a short career waiting for him in mine clearance.

He was likely referring to this one from 2014:

Seven dead after scrap metal workers cut open WWII bomb in Bangkok

Bangkok: At least seven people died and 19 others have been injured when a massive World War II bomb exploded at a scrap metal warehouse in Bangkok as workers tried to cut it open, officials say.

The 225-kilogram shell was found at a construction site by builders who then sold it to a suburban scrap metal merchant believing the bomb had been defused.

You can see why he's only trusted with broom.

There has been a lot of similar stories here, and S.E. Asia. Local scrap merchants cutting open live ordnance, with resulting hilarity and mirth.

The huge bomb in Bangkok was a notable case. As was the team that cut open a X-ray scanner and released Cobalt-60 radiation..

Technically a Gamma ray unit.

Once an x-ray machine is switched off you could keep it safely under your bed.
