Pattaya: "Baht bus" driver faces fine after allegedly trying to reverse over family

Pattaya's song thaews - known locally as baht buses - are in the news again for all the wrong reasons.

 

A woman posted on Facebook that she and her family - that included two children and two old people - hired one from a market in Thepprasit to go to Jomtien beach for which they were asked 100 baht. 

 

She agreed to the fare but the shenanigans started before they reached their desired destination. 

 

After going round a bend they were ordered to get out. The lady said they had not arrived at their destination yet.

 

Again they were ordered out at Soi 4 but again she said it was a little further. 

 

Tempers flared as they were driven down a soi and the lady's mother said they should get out and pay as she was scared. 

 

The older woman went to pay but as she did a child fell as those in the back were trying to get off and the driver started to speed off. 

 

Furious, the lady took a picture of the offending vehicle and then the driver allegedly tried to reverse over the family as they fled to the sanctuary of a restaurant. 

 

She said: When are they going to do something about these drivers?

 

Tawat Pheuakbunnak of the song thaew association said he had spoken to the driver who called the family to apologize. 

 

He admitted arguing with them after being cross that he had taken them to the beach as requested but they kept saying they wanted to go a bit further. 

 

He will face a fine at an upcoming appearance to the Department of Land Transport, said Tawat.

So he apologized then. So good to know that the drivers with anger management issues are facing accountability!

Face a fine !! Pathetic, he should be banned from driving a public service vehicle, as he is not fit.

A fine seems too severe. Perhaps a light smack on the palm with a ruler or twenty lines, "I shall not reverse over families", might be more suitable?

Steady on chaps...poor bus driver probably got out of bed on the wrong side that day...cut him some slack please.....

Id  suggest a light  tickling would be enough, after  all, these days people are  offended by far less.

At the DLT he will apologise. The DLT will then say, "OK, that's fine."

He deserves to be in jail!

Ah, the wannabe Pattaya baht bus mafia. Hands off!

These guys can be real mean... I once had to take an elderly lady to her hotel on my bike, as a baht bus driver wanted 200 baht more to do it.. she had missed her get off point after an organised trip.

Tawat? Is that a typo?

Some thing never change in Pattaya, as long Songtaew and taxi mafia get away with anything.

Thailand 4.0 + Pattaya Bali Hai revamp, maybe even Walking street get a makeover, but the taxi of both kinds keep going on forever and ever.

 

Finally he has a ride but then he behaves like an savage to his customers?

I'm sure it is all a misunderstanding. It will be resolved with a basket of goodies, a picture opportunity and a wai.

Arrested, tossed into jail and let the courts decide. But TIT and little consequences.

The Thai legal system’s verging on indifference to these thugs perpetuates their behavior.    $100,000 Covid-19 insurance to holiday in Thailand and endure these gibbons.... yeah right.
