So her son got a gun and shot them.

A refreshing story for a change.  No one went charging in all guns blazing.  Just a gentle escalation through verbal abuse, catapults, knives and guns.

At least they tried to settle their differences before it got messy.

noun: catapult; plural noun: catapults

British

a forked stick with an elastic band fastened to the two prongs, used by children for shooting small stones.

I think this is yet another example of the old maxim:

Quote

The English and Americans are two peoples divided by a common language.

(A saying commonly attributed to either George Bernard Shaw or Oscar Wilde, although neither of them used those exact words).

Terrible, however, the writer needs to understand the difference between a catapult and a slingshot.

And the difference between a sickle and a scythe

Sickle = Used with one hand; short handle and blade; sharp on the inside curve of the blade. ... Scythe = Two-handled tool used standing up instead of stooped over; longer blade and longer handle. Used for cutting same kinds of crops as sickle. Evolved after the sickle.

Used to be lots of pictures of sickles on flags at one time.

Anyways.... Just shows how nuclear war is never as far away as we think. Escalation, escalation, annihilation...
