BANGKOK (NNT) - A group of 151 Thai soldiers, who will return from the United States next week, are expected to be quarantined at a reception building of Suan Son Pradipat in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. Initially, they were to be taken to a quarantine facility in Nakhon Ratchasima province.

The Commander of the Second Army Area, Lt. Gen. Thanya Kiatisarn, said today that the 151 soldiers will return from Hawaii on July 22. The Royal Thai Army is coordinating with the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) to decide which facilities the soldiers will be housed in.

Initially, the army proposed that the soldiers be quarantined at its hotel. However, it will not be in Nakhon Ratchasima due to its inadequate infrastructure. They are more likely to be quarantined at the reception building of Suan Son Pradipat because it has more than enough rooms to accommodate them.

The 151 soldiers will travel by chartered flight to Thailand. They will arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport, and each soldier will go through a screening process in accordance with the protocols of the Ministry of Public Health and CCSA. They will be required to undergo a 14-day quarantine before being allowed to return to their home provinces.

Erm... ok, fair enough, but why is this news?

Is it because we’ve come to expect that the military are flouting the regulations they put in place, so, with their feet to the medial coals they are pre-empting any doubt?

Nice place to be quarantined, at the beach. We stayed there once. Wife's brother-in-law is an army officer.

I expect that the announcement is intended to reassure people.

Despite the rampant cynicism, it is now SOP to put personnel into a controlled containment. NATO personnel are doing this with their deployments and considering the fact that   the Thais are returning from the land of the  diseased, it is prudent.  Not everyone is as selfish and irresponsible as the Egyptians were.

Fingers crossed that they are chaperoned and stay put and we don’t find them at the mall or local watering holes.

I'd take it over those hotels being advertised in Bangkok.

Because the government want people to believe they're on the ball and there won't be anymore screw-ups !

They have military airbases? Barracks? Why risk the population at a civilian airport? Why take the risk during transportation? How many busses for 151 soldiers and their escorts?

Added risk to third sentence.

No airport there but at the outskirts of Hua Hin's most dense area when the Bangkokians come for their weekend break????
