Video: Police bust goes wrong - drug man with 12 million Ya Ba pills escapes

Dramatic footage from a PT gas station in the Muang Mai sub-district of Sri Bunruang in Thailand's north east showed the moment an attempt by the country's crack drugs police to encircle a suspect in a van went wrong.

 

After trying to smash his way out by reversing he decided to plow headlong into the gap left in front. 

 

Sideswiping a gas pump and nearly causing a far worse situation the suspect managed to flee. 

 

The police announced today that two arrests had been made in the Phu Rua district of neighboring Loei province. 

 

Sikan, 26, was behind the wheel of the Toyota van and Kittisak, 24, led the way in a Yaris. 

 

They were regular drug mules who the police had been tracking for some time. 

 

The police said they found 12 million Ya Ba pills that were on their way to Saraburi for wider distribution in Bangkok.

Never a good idea for a bust in a gas station is it the risk assessment needs some fine tuning????

Keystone ...comes to mind,they leave space in front,when

they bust a house,sometimes no Police at back door.

Yeh, but if they hadn't left the space the whole pump might have ruptured sending many to a fiery end.

I'm not going to be as critical as others have been, short of opening fire there's not a lot else they could have done, these criminals were determined to escape, the police made a good attempt at boxing them in

Good news is they later got caught.

How about blocking entry exit points or laying spike strips across the entry exit point so the van can't get very far...????

It looked to me that the guy in the pick up on the right wanted to drive off with the filler still attached.........free diesel?

That wasnt even a good attempt. One of the most dangerous places you would attempt to surround a vehicle is a petrol station. The risk off a major disaster was pretty obvious but luckily they got away with it. One fractured petrol pipe and a slight spark was all it would take.

I'm more amazed at the 12 million Yar Bar, that's 2 for each of us up here in Laos (Excluding kids), and this is only one small bust of many no doubt, how many of these tabs are made and sold ??? Anybody any idea how much '1' tab cost ? (Its OK, you can say that your mate told you ....)

You need to watch the recently released "The Business of Drugs" on Netflix, the episode on Myanmar is especially informative about the scale and profit of the Yaba trade. Seems that the government, all the state agencies like police and army, as well as all the militias like the Wa and Shan State are in the drug production business whilst avowing they are trying to stop it, and it's everyone but them who are in the business.  

 

Legalisation and regulation is the only solution, but the illegal producers don't want that as it destroys their income stream. Also the law enforcement and military get large grants to "stamp out" the trade, and that money would dry up if the trade was legal.

Smarter had one truck come in from the front. 2 from the back.

Clearly not trying to get to the source then. But, guess that would upset the wrong people. Seems more like a scapegoat / internal deal went wrong or the police was in dire need to to show some results.

Unfortunately, that happened to me once (self-serve not in Thailand). Got distracted and just drove off, until I heard a loud 'clank' and saw the hose disconnected and dangling from my gas tank (most hoses have safety break points). Inside attendant came out and said 'no worries, happens about once a month' and re-attached the hose.

Those movie scenes where you see flames shooting out of ruptured gas pumps is pretty much a myth. There is an emergency shear/cutoff valve on every gas pump/dispenser.

Was this planned at the same station as the thin blue line show?

but they did get them in the end and the pills so the headline was misleading. they didn't actually escape, they escaped from the garage but it didn't last long.

I have seen flames shooting out of a ruptured pump in a gas station on a CCTV in just such a situation, police chase in the USA, the driver got away as well.

Police briefing: We'll be trying to stop them in a petrol station probably have cctv camers, so we have to make it look as if we tried our best to stop them.

 

The copper in the pick up stopped just in shot has taken off his vest. He's given up already.

If there was method to their madness they would have encircled him in a totally different place .
