Provincial authorities in Nan told media that the leader of an anti-government protest planned for Wednesday (July 29) is only 14 years old.

The protest is scheduled to be held outside Wat Phumin temple from 4.30pm to 6pm.

Police said the youngster had contacted them to seek permission for the rally, and has been told that she will face no charges if she follows the law.

Officers also told the press that the young protest leader will be informed about the Public Assembly Act’s Article 11, so protesters don’t violate the law.

It is now running in many more places than the government thought and if the leader of this group is only 14, what does that matter? It has started as a youth movement and I truly hope that it will build to be unstoppable.

That's her chances of ever getting a place at a university gone for good. The organisers need to grow some cojones and stop hiding behind young girls.

Reduced to applying to a 7-11 at age 21.

Application Rejected.

This protest thing is obviously becoming very "cool" amongst the young; I wonder how much that reflects a real will for political change as opposed to just wanting to be part of the latest trend.

this is a positive, good luck  and the youth and everyone really back this movement ,they cut thanakorn off at the knees this is a way round that....maybe.eventually enough people will say no it takes time.the act of civil disobedience not violence will possibly be one answer.i hear and see more and more people getting fed up with the new feudalism concept, just looking for a way to oppose it,all those senators so that end is tied up.theyve made themselves a legal illegal govt!!!

Anyway you look at it, you will very rarely find people, who are leaders of a Country, that 'really' take on the jobs of running a government, who only have the good of the people in mind. You seem to have the answer. Who do you suggest that the Thai's support to lead the country that does not have "Gangster" ties or persona?  PM Shinawatra was a visionary with the people's best interest in mind (mind you he was part of the government that made sure internet and telecom companies had to be Thai back in the 1990's, early 2000's) and then he got very corrupt. Those that followed him were either part of that problem or just too naive to govern.

Rant all you want. A 14 yr old needs to be a teenager and have fun. (Difficult when there is a pandemic and poor economic conditions).

Not child labor, but your comment seems to come from a child.  Want to see what happens when real gangsters run a country?

Perhaps there will be plenty of "grown up" Thai's at the actual protest, who knows?

Has it occurred to you that as the girl is only 14 she can't be meaningfully punished (i,e sent to jail) according to Section 74 of the criminal code act?

"Section 74. Children over 10 but under 15

A child over ten years but not yet over fifteen years of age commits what is provided by the law to be an offence, shall not be punished, but the Court shall have the power as follows:"

They could order her removed from her parents according to the criminal code but I think that would really get things heated up.

All in all, seems like a good move to register the protest in the name of someone who they can't throw in jail.
