A key witness in the fatal hit and run involving the Red Bull heir Vorayuth Yoovidhya was killed last night in a motorbike accident.

Jaruchart Maadthong, 40, was understood to be one of two key defence witnesses in the case against Vorayuth, also known as ‘Boss’.

Mr Maadthong died following the accident in Chiang Mai, Thai media reported.

CCTV footage shared by Thai news site Daily News appeared to show Mr Maadthong colliding with a central reservation then losing control of the motorbike.

Thai PBS quoted police as saying Mr Maadthong died following the accident.

According to Thailand’s public service broadcaster, Mr Maadthong was one of two key witnesses whose statements resulted in charges against Boss being sensationally dropped by the Office of the Attorney-General and the national police, without providing a reason.

The dropping of the charges sparked a fierce backlash by Thais on social media.

Mr Maadthong had said that Boss was not driving more than 60k/h and that the now deceased policeman had cut in front of the Red Bull heir in the hit and run accident that took place in 2012.

Vorayuth had been accused of fleeing the scene of the crash. He later fled Thailand, where he is yet to return. He was then tracked down to the UK, where he is believed to have resided since the accident took place.

A family driver initially tried to take the blame but was later charged with giving a false statement to police.

Police have said the old case against Vorayuth had officially ended and could only be relaunched if relatives of the victim filed the case directly to a court, or if there were new witnesses or evidence.

Reuters contributed to this report.

Warning, caution advised

  • A sniper's bullet to the head?

  • Nope. He's off the bike well before the riderless machine hits the central reservation.   No idea whatever why he came off from the video. Something "illuminated" drops to the ground before

  • That is very handy ...he made a statement and now cannot be cross examined .........

Odd.

Very strange illumination just before he falls off...

A sniper's bullet to the head?

Changed my mind, not a second bike, the illuminated "thing" that falls could be reflection from his helmet/visor.

So why did he come off? And why was such a relatively "mild" accident fatal? I've come off like that in the past (failed chain, jammed rear wheel) and walked away with just a bruised pride.

Conspiracy Warning - Trip wire?

Sniper doesn't need UFO alike lighting to hit the target... I mean something fell off him that could be a phone in his hand or something... but could also be a piece of motorbike that broke off, ending up a bit right of motorbike after it came to rest... he could as well get spooked by that unexplained light... Looked at the house on the left to see if this was camera increasing sensitivity but it doesn't seem so. Looks like there really was that strange light...

A car just passed there seconds earlier... which would be taller than the wire... ?

It looks to me that he hit a bike that was lying in the road in the left lane. There are two bikes?

I can't see that. I think it's the bike in the central reservation only, and body on the right...

Is he still with the bike on the left? Second bike on the right?

Almost looks as if there is a someone on the sidewalk as they road past and then things happened. I find this very hard to be a coincidence.

Not a one for conspiracy theories, but it does seem worryingly convenient.

I wonder if he'd cashed his cheque already?

  • Popular Post

Wow, what are the odds of that happening?

Thailand - the Land of Strange Coincidences. File this along with the mysterious deaths of those Saudis in the Blue Diamond Affair.

This reads better than a Michael Connelly fiction novel.

Nobody noticed the flash from the motorbike on the left as he is approaching the unfortunate "victim"??

Looks about 20-30 yards between them, then the guy drops off his bike. The flash from the left then mirrors the line across the road that the guy rolls from his seat.....

Will be really interesting to see what the Police concludes...

I had thoughts about something happening to the witnesses 2 days ago, and i'm not a fortune teller

The BIB have long memories especially when it comes to one of their own.  Not every copper got paid off so there will be many that think letting “boss” go free is an injustice.

Make of that what you will.  The other guy, an air marshall will watching his back very carefully I would think.

Bike on the left in front of car shoots him, theres a clear muzzle flash then the target bike wobbles slightly  for a  few meters before a body falls off and dosnt move again ( possibly the pillion ? ) whilst the bike goes off into the central reservation... The only thing im not sure of is if there was another on the bike than went with it into the central reservation ( poss rider ).... Either way both bodies didnt move again which is unusual and there was definitely a muzzle flash from the bike on the left just before . The bike was doing approx 50kmh on a clear road in good weather at night with good lights. People dont just fall off bikes dead. If it was a hit that killed 2 it must have been a powerful gun and a good shot.

BTW the main witnesses name was released and made known to the public only a few days ago once the charges were dropped.
