The greed is on the Chinese side with their zero Baht tours and fake temples and whatever other greedy idea to get the money here in Thailand of their own countrymen. 

Why not use the pcr test 96 h before arrival in bkk like emirates to restart the country's economy?

I would like to see one talk of stranded retirees other visa holders coming back before tourists. We can afford and stomach the quarantine so are safe.

 

We invested but Thailand has now disinvested in us. I am 76 and want to return to my property.

I disagree. This is a government agency that's responsible for encouraging tourism. Diverse businesses depend on tourism. Thailand competes with its neighbors, and countries throughout the world, for tourists, and not just the Chinese. This person was doing his job, which is to advocate for tourist-dependent businesses in Thailand.

what has made no sense for a while is not allowing those with long stay visas to return promptly. Those with work permits and elite visas all finding it difficult because of the flight/embassy situations. 
 

so many hotels have zero/very low occupancy so open them up with appropriate covid policies and charge those returning the current prices of 60k THB for 2 weeks quarantine

- gets cash in for the hotels

- gets long term stayers back spending baht
 

no problem also opening up to tourists who are also prepared to do 2 weeks quarantine. 
 

I would  not consider Opening to short term tourists from any country at this point. 

Let me guess- the “tourist chief” is Thai- Chinese. Why would anyone trust the Chinese??? They’ll fake health certificates and only spend money on package cheap tours. Question: Who is responsible for the virus? Did we forget?!!??

Go back 2-3 generations and you'll find they're one and the same.

They're the defacto ruling class too, as basically any business activity back then allowed themselves to dominate as a merchant class. Even in 2020 I see plenty of Thai people shoot themselves in the foot with regards to a lack of long-term thinking and a desire for instant gratification - two cultural norms which are anathema to success in business.

Meanwhile, Chinese continue to focus on the long term and happy to take 5c profit now for long-term profit later.

So, when grandpa and grandma don't speak more than basic Thai, and many of the rich rulers simply changed their names to appear more Thai, is it any surprise that there's a fetish for Chinese?

ditto....all celtic boy sees is zero dollar tourists....there were a plethora of regular Chinese tourists that Thai people were making good money from pre-covid

Better think again about welcoming the Chinese back. Look at what’s happening in the Philippines at this moment

w no Chinese. 

China has friends  north Korea Iran .  I have no major problem except for the fact that they can not be trusted to be honest about covid and are in the middle of round 2 of the virus.

 

Personally I think the present plan is the best which is keep the borders relatively closed until the world gets its act together.

 

Test businesses could use the money but what happens when the Chinese tourist brings in round 2.
