Thailand's drug suppression police became suspicious after they discovered that engine parts were being delivered to Taiwan, a country where such items are made.

An export company operating out of Ratchadapisek Soi 16 in the Bangkok Yai area came under suspicion.

When a man called Kriangkrai drove a Nissan Navarro to a parcel delivery company he was stopped and his cargo was searched.

Inside various engine parts were 200 bags of heroin weighing 75 kilos.

Kriangkrai, from Nakhon Sawan, said that he had been hired over the last two months to send parts abroad six times for which he claimed he received 10,000 baht a time.

He denied any knowledge of the drugs.

He has been charged with exporting a Class 1 drug (heroin) and having it in his possession with intent to distribute.

Police said that drug smugglers were coming up with ever ingenious ways to avoid detection.

Examples recently included stashing the drugs in fitness equipment and talcum powder canisters.

The drug suppression force are looking into the source of the drugs in this case as the investigation widens.

I was thinking just the same, except the English phrase 'sending coals to Newcastle', with the same meaning.

I wonder if it occurred to the police the parts could have been specially modified for a niche market? Or maybe they received intelligence from Taiwanese police/customs?

That will buy him a few yrs Free board in a Government hotel.  ????

I opened this article expecting to read that the Deputy Minister of the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry of Thailand had been arrested.

This will carry a 2 million year jail sentence and a 100 trillion baht fine if he confesses and a lot longer if he doesn't ????
