That is true. If thailand continues the arrogant policy and don't want falang anymore. Lets find another place. Philiphine, indonesia, Kambodia etc...

Er, please show this “ policy”

Most farang country get free visa, no apply. Just buy plane ticket and come.

Only TVF paranoia conspiracy loon think not welcome. Millions normal farang love thailand. Famous.

We have more tourist than dangerous Philippine, 3rd world Cambodia and Muslim Indonesia all together. You forget communist Vietnam?

People love return thailand everyyear, for best food, so fun, and lovely Thai smile. ????

Thailand number 1 tourism.

Bangkok is again the world’s most-visited city for the fourth consecutive year, beating out Paris and London. The rankings are compiled annually by Mastercard. Welcoming around 22.7 million international visitors, Bangkok ranked as the top destination for global travellers this year.

U.S. News & World Report said of Phuket:

“Pure white sands, aquamarine waters and limestone cliffs await travellers who visit Thailand’s southwestern island of Phuket.

For picture-perfect views, travellers should plan to visit Patong Beach, Phang Nga Bay and Promthep Cape.

What’s more, Phuket’s colourful shrines, elephant sanctuaries and Laem Hin Pier, which features floating restaurants that dish out fresh seafood, are sure to impress.”

Along with Phuket, other Thai destinations also featured in the ‘Best Places to Visit in Asia’ rankings. The number six spot went to Chiang Mai, the number 9 spot to Bangkok and the number 12 spot to Railay Beach in Krabi province.

Thailand is quickly catching up to South Korea as the world’s prime destination for cosmetic surgeries and treatments. Home to 64 JCI-accredited medical facilities – three times more than Singapore and 6 times more than Malaysia.

Thailand should create a visa free zone...give tourists who only want to party...a place to go to not gave to be hassled by immigration and police looking for Tea Money!

Make entry and exit easy...would attract party people from all over the world...

But if they return, they will realize that nobody is there. And the lights are off.

Currently some lights are off but enough are still on. And the service providers are very keen these days. I am sure in the long run there will always be a supply and demand balance like in the last decades.

Dear All,

The aim of the original post was not to slam Thailand as a go to destination..

It's been my number 1 destination for the last 10 years...but to really think about whether you really want to keep spending your hard earned cash in a country that does not really appreciate the western tourist, only there money and where the  exchange rate is almost heading to half as it was  5 years ago....steps could be taken to address that to ensure tourist get more value...more value =more spending...Thailand  wins ัััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััั.

The question one must ask is how low does the £,$,€ have to fall before you say enough is enough, cos for now , you keep spending, why would they want to lower the Baht. "For what " as the locals say in Thailand!!!

 Excuse me .

Expert expats, on TVforum  , who like to be known as resididents in the kingdom,

are not in the least concerned , about party tourism ..

  Whatever next ....

You do realise there are several downsides to just devaluing a currency, right?   Or you think it's just "hey let's make our currency cheaper so more tourists will come, yay!"?   They could devaluate it by 75% to get loooooads of tourists, so why not do that?

And yet another one who spouts "they don't want us here".  A six month amnesty was pretty generous, did anywhere offer more?  Thailand offers visa free entry for nationals of 64 countries.  Book a flight, turn up, have a great holiday.  They are now offering a 9-month visa for tourists.

The immediate future for Thai tourism is very bleak due to Covid.  It is not going to recover or open up any time soon, but that is not because they hate you.

Oh, and by the way, it is the goal of every single country's tourism board to entice the highest spenders and extract the most money on their visits.  More money and less people is a universal goal, Thailand is not unique.  Have a look at the marketing goals of any major tourism destination - attract the wealthy, extract as much money as possible - it is openly stated and out there on the internet for you.  Why should Thailand be any different?  In my opinion Thailand opens up to a much broader range of visitor than most.  Do you need bank statements or financial records to arrive here and be granted entry?  Nope (not for most).

People sure do like to moan.

So stupid. What is the different between Tourist Visa and STV ?? NOTHING ! STV is even more expensive with all the drama !!!

you get in total 270 days with STV but have to pay 6000 bath and with tourist visa you can get in total 90 days but cost only 1900 bath for one extension  !

Er you ask what's the difference, then you go on to explain the difference to yourself whilst seemingly getting quite angry.

A Tourist Visa gives you 60 days which can be extended by a further 30 to give a total of 90 days.
The STV visa gives you up to 270 days.

Got it now, or do you need to explain it to yourself again?

yes i understand 270 days but it also costs you more. This model is just to lure tourist to earn money. Alone the hotels cost you minimum 50000 bath for 14 nights. Plus another hotel services and your private data through that stupid APP.

Entry's always been easy (before Covid)  Exit's easy, too.  It only gets difficult if you want to reside in Thailand on a tourist status.

And that's only been getting difficult since 2014.

That said, during Covid, perhaps they can relegate one island with an airport to be a free for all, completely isolated from the rest of Thailand.  Come at your own risk and open a business to cater to thousands of luv starved, thirsty foreigners.  Make money hand over fist, but remember- you're stuck on ASQ Island for the duration.  Until they come up with a vaccine.  Or you fly out to some other country.

A 60 day visa is $50, so around 1,500 THB.  30 day extension is 1,900, so total for 90 days is 3,400 THB.

For 270 days the STV will cost you 6,000.  So less than double, for three times the stay.  What's your problem with that?  Longer visas cost more in any country in the whole world.    It is really not a lot of money for a 9 month visa.

And yes, hotels also cost money, that is quote normal.

It ain't the cost of the visa.  It's being locked in that hotel room for the 14 days.  Not quite so normal...

56,000 baht and 14 days of my life locked in a room are a steep price to pay for a holiday.  Unless it's a very deluxe suite, and then it's not 50K.
