Alleged Russian thief in custody after stabbing Doi Suthep park official

1pm.jpg

Sanook reported that an official of the Doi Suthep - Pui national Park in Chiang Mai was stabbed by a Russian man allegedly caught stealing from tourists.

Patrols had been stepped up in the area of the Doi Suthep temple after a spate of thefts over the last two months.

At 3 am on Sunday the 32 year old Russian was spotted and approached. He ran off and was cornered but refused to give himself up.

A park official was taken to hospital after being stabbed with some scissors.

Phuping Ratchaniwet police were in attendance and the suspect was also taken to hospital after first aid was administered.

Bit confusing, the  claim is this Russian bloke was stealing off tourists, yet he was spotted at 3 am.

Surely no tourists around at that time of night.

Before this thread gets hooliganized, is carrying a concealed knife or scissors a misdemeanor in TH? What about in your car?

I was wondering about the 3 am stealing from tourists caper also...and why did the Russian need medical attention after being taken into custody?  Did he hurt himself?

Yes, actually it can be many reasons for him running.

He was not mugging them. He was breaking into parked cars, stealing from things outside their tents when they were asleep. Yes he also stole from inside tents when not occupied during the daytime too.

Supposedly it's almost almost impossible to k ..... catch, the b------

I think he's blown his chances of an extension.

Just a stranded tourists helping the Thai economy....

it now makes sense why the rangers was acting suspicious & aggressive when I last visited that camp/trekking site behind the doi sutep temple - but seem I didn't really fit the profile so was let go...usually easy to come & go at that NP HQ camp

Yes.

He said he had the scissors as he wanted to take a short cut back to his tent????

Looks like the Russian went for the park rangers neck (jugular). Hope he does real prison time.

and unfortunately till they clean house you can expect more of this..

It is rather unfortunate that the term "farang" does not distinguish between Westerners and the various ex Eastern bloc countries. A lot of highly-publicized incidents seem to involve the citizens of a relatively small number of country, but we all get tarred with the same brush.

It doesn't say he was spotted stealing at 3 am.  Just that he was spotted at that time.

Maybe the police had already been looking for him.
