Royal Garden Mall to "suspend service" in June? End of an error?

Featured Replies

I was there today and saw the sign. I think it said June 8. Was I imagining it? Royal Garden Mall. Used to be "the" mall. The only real mall. Remember the old food court on the top floor when it was cheap and fun, and some might say sleazy?

How do you feel about this?

  • Surely this would be BIG news if true.....I bet Royal Garden is doing much much better than Harbor mall....   I remember the old food court on the top floor in Royal Garden.....It was great.

  • Yeah, it works well as a good air-conditioned shortcut between Beach Rd and Second....

  • Says you.

I remember the old food court on the top floor in Royal Garden.....It was great....Cheap and relaxed........But then I think some time around 2011 2012 or 13 or 14? They came in and tried to make the place O-so Hi-so.......It was unpleasant it was much more expensive it sucked.....I went there once or twice after the remodel and then never went there ever again.....I think most people found it unpleasant too and guit going...

The exact same thing happened at the Central Festival Food court.......The only difference being the Central Festival Food court was not real special to begin with but it was cheap.....But then they tried to turn it into a Hiso food court and now it kind of sucks...

The old food court used to have one stall that did Hanglay Curry..............lovely............not many places do Hanglay............probably down to cooking time...........

How do you want us to feel about it? Sleazy is good? Sleaze is normal for Pattaya hounds who post in the small hours.

You edited my post to distort the meaning. Not cool.

I think they should have kept the "colorful" food court as it was and also keep the funky movie theater. Those had local character.

But now with the two luxury malls to compete with and no tourists I don't see how they could make it through the coronavirus era.

As far as the sign I saw yesterday I wonder if I was hallucinating. After all I am the flashback member. It was rather a shock but given the reality on the streets it really shouldn't be.

Also the language on the sign was very weird.

Suspending service?

<deleted> is that?

If the mall is closing freaking put up a sign saying the mall is closing.

Why pussyfoot about that if indeed that is what's happening which again I'm not totally sure?

Also tell us is this a permanent change and the place will be torn down or just turn it into another ghost mall and wait for better days when it just might be resurrected.

Why not take a photo and put us all out of our misery.

I should have.

Someone else who visits please do.

I realize this would be big news for this city because of the historic significance of that mall. One can assume the local "press" will soon cover.

I was there last week and the mall was open. Obviously they didn't suspend the service in June. The food court on the last floor has been closed for a while. This is correct.

End of June???

June 2021?

OMG that's a good and obvious catch.

I think it said June 8.

So that would be next year.

Why announce that so far in advance?

The plot thickens.

We're going to need confirmation from someone that doesn't have flashbacks.

I didn't ever say that the mall was closed now!

I went in there yesterday.

I am just posting about a sign I saw on the door presumably pointing to a future closing!

If this is real perhaps the long lead time is related to the timing of their leasing contracts?

Again even if I am recalling the sign correctly which is questionable that doesn't necessarily mean that the mall is closing. Suspending service is a different statement than mall closing.

That's why I put question marks in the headline.

If it turns out the mall isn't closing please don't say this is fake news because again I don't know if the mall is closing or not at this point.

I will add though I recall there is a member here that knows a Thai staff person at the mall that reported that because of very slow business the mall may be closing.

I guess wait for some kind of official announcement.

This thread isn't that.

Hey there.

Surely someone reading this will be near Royal Garden soon.

The sign that I think I saw was on the 2nd road entrance side.

Why not check it out and report back?

Maybe ask some Thais working in the mall about it.

It has been a place to pee, go to an ATM, and get in some aircon for quite awhile.  Maybe buy a Dairy Queen.

Sadly, a wasteland of nothingness.

Don't know why the OP thinks RG mall is an error.

I liked the movie theatre- 50 baht and midnight movies. Kids loved the fountain.

Was just there. The sign on 2nd road entrance only applies to Food Wave. Security guard confirmed. I guess this is the same kind of "interpretation" when you announced that Fascino on Pattaya North was closing. Not

I was obviously joking around with some wordplay dude so relax.

Yes the old style movie theater and food courts were great.

But they closed them long ago.
