Popular Post webfact
Half of Republicans say Biden won because of a 'rigged' election: Reuters/Ipsos poll FILE PHOTO: Voters wait in line to enter a polling place and cast their ballots on the first day of the state's in-person early voting for the general elections in Durham, North Carolina, U.S. October 15, 2020. REUTERS/Jonathan Drake (Reuters) - About half of all Republicans believe President Donald Trump "rightfully won" the U.S. election but that it was stolen from him by widespread voter fraud that favored Democratic President-elect Joe Biden, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll. The Nov. 13-17 opinion poll showed that Trump’s open defiance of Biden's victory in both the popular vote and Electoral College appears to be affecting the public’s confidence in American democracy, especially among Republicans. Altogether, 73% of those polled agreed that Biden won the election while 5% thought Trump won. But when asked specifically whether Biden had "rightfully won," Republicans showed they were suspicious about how Biden's victory was obtained. Fifty-two percent of Republicans said that Trump "rightfully won," while only 29% said that Biden had rightfully won. Asked why, Republicans were much more concerned than others that state vote counters had tipped the result toward Biden: 68% of Republicans said they were concerned that the election was "rigged," while only 16% of Democrats and one-third of independents were similarly worried. Sixty-eight percent of Republicans said they were concerned that the election was "rigged," according to a new Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll. This report produced by Yahaira Jacquez. 2020-11-18T195657Z_1_LOV000MCSQNAN_RTRMADV_STREAM-2000-16X9-MP4_USA-ELECTION-POLL.MP4 Even before winning the 2016 election, Trump kept up a drumbeat of complaints about the process, claiming without evidence that it was unfair to him. Since Biden amassed enough electoral votes to win the White House on Nov. 7, Trump has ramped up those criticisms, telling his supporters that he is the victim of widespread illegal voting. Trump has failed to give any proof for his claims and has not been able to back them up in court, however. Republicans announced this week that they were dropping federal election lawsuits in Michigan, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The poll showed that more Americans appear to be more suspicious about the U.S. election process than they were four years ago. Altogether, 55% of adults in the United States said they believed the Nov. 3 presidential election was "legitimate and accurate," which is down 7 points from a similar poll that ran shortly after the 2016 election. The 28% who said they thought the election was "the result of illegal voting or election rigging" is up 12 points from four years ago. The poll showed Republicans were much more likely to be suspicious of Trump's loss this year than Democrats were when Hillary Clinton lost four years ago. In 2016, 52% of Democrats said Hillary Clinton's loss to Trump was "legitimate and accurate," even as reports emerged of Russian attempts to influence the outcome. This year, only 26% of Republicans said they thought Trump's loss was similarly legitimate. The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online, in English, throughout the United States. It gathered responses from 1,346 respondents, including 598 Democrats and 496 Republicans, and has a credibility interval, a measure of precision, of 5 percentage points. Popular Post simple1
Agree. Without any proof whatsoever "Fifty-two percent of Republicans said that Trump "rightfully won," Just demonstrates how corrosive the trump administration has been for truth holding the ascendency. The cult of personality has gripped many American citizens, as well as around the world. here in Oz there are a number of trump fanatics also rabbiting on about trump's conspiracy theories. Shows how quickly the foundations of democratic society can be undermined by someone such as trump and his enablers. Popular Post Chomper Higgot
“Half of Republicans say Biden won because of a 'rigged' election: Reuters/Ipsos poll” That’ll be the lefthand half of the bell curve with ‘IQ’ on the ‘X-axis’. Popular Post J Town
This is what you get when you raise a bunch of spoiled, entitled brats, given a trophy for merely participating. They never learned the lesson of losing gracefully, and if it was important enough to WANT to win, then try harder next time. The big picture disgrace is how, when faced with a national disaster that SHOULD have brought the country together, instead roughly half the country listened to a buffoon whose obvious intent was to divide the US, resulting in tens of thousands of needless deaths. Mission accomplished 45.

Yes, in addition to social media there's all the disinformation being spread on "news" networks like OAN, Newsmax and the established Fox & Breitbart. If these are where you "learn" about the world, you're truly living in an alternate reality. 11

Popular Post ThreeEyedRaven
The damage Trump has done to America is plain to see. Tell 20,000 + lies and your followers become unable to discern truth from fiction. With both Democrat and Republican officials alike insisting everything was above board, still these people follow the trail of stupidity. Extremely sad.

Popular Post Jingthing
Well, they can think what they want. There is no rule against willful ignorance and being a follower of a cult of personality, believing every lie he tells, and boy does he tell lies. But reality marches on. The results of the Georgia hand recount are coming in. As expected, the results are indicating President Elect Biden will still win Georgia. It was very close and worth doing a recount, but for reality based people, this was game over a long time ago. Even if the recount did switch the winner to Mr. Trump (it won't), that doesn't come even close to reversing the national election results. The only way Mr. Trump can stay in power is via a coup. I consider getting state legislatures to overturn the will of their own state's people a coup as much as a military one. Do republicans really want it that way? I know. I don't have to ask. They do, and that is tragic. The damage done to American democracy by Mr. Trump's movement is massive and will be very hard, perhaps impossible, to reverse. https://www.npr.org/2020/11/18/936395421/as-georgias-hand-recount-concludes-vote-count-shows-biden-still-ahead Edited November 19, 2020 by Jingthing 6 2

The election IS over. Joe Biden is President Elect. Mr. Trump can only stay in power via a coup, a soft one or a military one. It is true that he has a "non zero" chance of pulling that off, but it's still a very long shot. 6 1
Popular Post Eric Loh
I think the sentiment of the Republicans reflect most countries where their incumbent party lost an election. Give them time to grief and they will accept the result eventually. Some may even have time to reflect on the how bad Trump as a President really was.

Trump should have at least till December 12 which is the date when the SCOTUS ended Gore's legal appeal. That's the precedent. Strictly speaking, IMO, it's not over till the electoral college votes on or after December 14. 4 3
Popular Post spidermike007
Trump has essentially started both a civil and a cultural war in the US. He has divided the nation, to a degree that has not been seen since the Civil War. He is an incredibly toxic and dark force. Now, it is 100% lies, and fake news. Anything but concede like a real man. And his devotees are drinking the kool-aid. No evidence whatsoever. The cases are getting thrown out of court due to lawyers showing up with zero, in the way of evidence. Such a sorry state of affairs. 9 1

President Elect Joe Biden will have 306 electoral votes. The same number that Mr. Trump gloated was a landslide. Hillary Clinton seeing that loss, conceded the day after election day. That is the precedent! Mr. Trump is breaking all norms of American democracy. He is acting as an authoritarian dictator. That's the precedent he's trying to establish. The 2000 election was over one state that ended up with a tiny margin. 500 votes. None of the FOUR states that Mr. Trump is questioning now is nearly as close at that. Georgia was the closest. The hand recount will be finished soon and will confirm the initial results. President Elect Joe Biden the winner. Mr. Trump would need to turn multiple states. That's basically impossible short of a coup. Again, nothing like 2000. 11 7
Popular Post newnative
Sad so many buy into Trump's lies. But, as I said in a post on another thread, Trump is the ultimate and biggest loser with his mail-in voter fraud lies. Just yesterday a Georgia Republican official said that some 24,000 Republican voters, who had voted in the primary by mail, decided not to vote by mail in the general election, possibly because of Trump strongly urging them not to, and they failed to show up to vote in person on election day. So, 24,000 lost Republican votes. Those voters could have swung the state to Trump. Had Trump wholeheartedly embraced mail-in voting and started vigorously early like the Democrats to get out every single mail-in vote his volunteers could find, instead of waiting until the few hours of election day to get voters to the polls, he might have added enough votes to his totals to carry all of the states he narrowly lost. Nice, for once, that Trump screwed himself rather than America. 7 1
