Although the Thai m/c was clearly in the wrong, the farang didn't appear to slow down approaching an intersection.

Correct. Really competent drivers would see other motorists waiting at an intersection ease off and approach with caution. You can never assume that all other drivers will see you. If right of way was the full story, then there would never be any accidents.

The golden rules are never drop your guard and always expect the unexpected!

I don't believe it would occur to any driver (or rider) to slow down there. He's on a main through road and the other motorcyclist comes out of a tiny unmarked side road with no warning whatsoever.

You can criticise the farang rider for over-reacting slightly and I agree that he could perhaps have braked less sharply and/or manouevred around the oncoming bike but I don't think you can fault him for not slowing down.

Driving carefully is one thing, slowing down for every single tiny side road that joins a main road when traveling in rural areas, is taking it way too far, IMHO.

Happens to me on a daily basis. Thai rider keeps to the extreme left, I move to the right and put my foot down. Simples!

Verbally abusing the poor sod and hitting him on the head is well out of order. He was lucky the taxi driver didn't get his machete out. How to turn a good day into a bad day 101.

With that attitude folk will never learn how to use the road properly to reduce the LOS out of control road carnage....????

This foreigner should be charged with assault and deported.

He clearly overreacted, he has not got the experience to manage a dangerous situation, unexpected events occur on Thailand's Roads.

Thailand has its own road rules, we don't ride the same as back home, we need to adapt. At times I ride in a similar fashion to the old guy, Thais recognize this manoeuvre and move to the right so the oncoming rider can merge into the lane he's about to enter.

Go home, crazy foreigner.

This is daily scenery when out driving, and for our own sake, we should expect it every time we go for a ride. I just say good luck with that kind of attitude he did show right there and good luck with those driving scills or the bad combination with a poor bike as well.

Hey, Mr. Safety First, did you not know that LOS actually has a highway code booklet. Go read it then come back and tell me if your logic is right.....????

PS. The "go home" thingy is frowned upon here.....????

My favourite thing screamed at me... "I am Thai,  I cannot be wrong!" luckily it has come from only but I believe it's a widespread mentality

Yes I've read it.

It says nothing about attacking fellow road users.

You really think that you are capable of teaching them? Good luck with that. In an incident like that I'd rather put my foot down and watch them disappearing in my rear view mirror. There'll always be another one just around the next bend.

I'm sure that you are aware that "you can't teach stupid".

Its certainly not the first incident of "farang comes to Thailand and rides bike for the first time in his life".

Probably a teacher. Teaches by shouting and hitting. He's certainly learned Thai teaching methods well enough.

Its normal in Thailand for bikes. Thais have their own unwritten rules of the road. A Thai wouldn't even blink at the Thai riders actions. If you want to live a happy life in Thailand, neither should you.

You seem to been on the forum for a long time, and Im not sure if you just trolling, or you have not been out on the road to much and experienced how it is for real to be driving here.

Nothing going to change before the government make a proper driving school system that actually work and implement heavy fines for those who brake the rules. Also more tv propaganda alike we used to see back in the west.   Still it will take decades the change the driving culture we see today.

Except this rider didn't stay to the left. He came out into the middle of the lane and continued to come right down the centre of the lane, straight towards the farang's motorbike up to the point the camera lost sight of him.

Folk here are making excuses for the locals doing daft stuff, LOS road carnage is embarrassing but you brush it aside, I don't....

PS. Trolling no, just concerned, so should you ..

Do you see it as your duty to educate all other road users ?
