Mall attack settled: Norwegian pays 30K to Thai lady shopper he kicked after trolley misunderstanding

The attack by a foreigner on a Thai female shopper at Big C in Warin Chamrap on Boxing Day has been settled.

 

Tourist police in the north eastern Thai city of Ubon Ratchathani invited the complainant Ormjan, 26, and a Norwegian man called Tor Z. to discuss compensation at the Warin Chamrap station. 

 

Ms Ormjan asked for 40,000 baht, the Norwegian managed to bargain it down to 30,000 baht, reported Kapook.

Police additionally fined the assailant 500 baht.

 

The case is now over with no need to go to court. The media pictured the pair shaking hands awkwardly as many people including a smiling policeman looked on.

Earlier it was reported that the foreigner had aimed two kicks at the Thai lady after she mistakenly wheeled away his trolley.

 

She was kicked in both legs and needed to go for medical treatment while the foreigner went home as if nothing had happened.

 

The Thai lady said that unbeknown to her, her mother had wheeled away her trolley and she thought the one with items belonging to the foreigner was hers. She was wheeling it to an ATM when she was attacked. 

 

She was kicked once in the left leg, wai-ed in apology then was kicked in the other leg. 

 

The attack happened on December 26th at the Big C Supercenter in Warin Chamrap, Ubon Ratchathani.

Well that certainly was an expensive shopping trip for him.

He is a damn lucky man, that it is not going to court, or he might have been back in the cold in Norway.

I am not so sure it would have been 30,000 if they were both Thai, however, he deserves punishment after his display and should consider himself fortunate that the case is closed.

Im pretty sure had he been Thai it would be a lower amount. But I feel 30k is a good amount he is lucky that he wont get deported. What an idiot I wonder what brought him to do this.

Not me, but its hard to know how the nutcases are distributed. Made more sense that it was one of the more populous expat groups. (statistics wise). I almost never see Dutch people in the news (not because we are so perfect but more because we are not that big of a group)

Is the situation happening before or after shopping payment ?

 

If it was happening before payment it is absolutely non forgivable, that would be normal misunderstanding, happening very often in a supermarket and normaly handled with a smile.

 

If it is happening after payment it could look like a robbery, and then he have right to act in my mind, maybe he overreact to the little woman, thats another talk.

 

To see what is right or wrong I would like to know was the situation happening before or after payment ?

Because most Thais are strapped for cash and it's also part of their cultural way of settling things. When I was teaching I had a student slash another with a boxcutter, his mom paid the victim kid's mom 3000 baht and it was done. The offending kid did not even have to leave school that day. A Thai teacher told me his mom had paid off several times over his school career.

Nonsense....you don't have the right to kick a tiny woman in the legs twice ! even if she was stealing. That's an idiot with an anger management problem who in all likelihood is also a woman abuser.

Not outrageous considering his options if not paying would be jail, likely conviction and deportation...costing a whole lot more than 30K
