Compared to Portland, where protestors who came close to government buildings were treated quite harshly, this reeks of favoritism toward the white Trump crowd. How can the capital building, with congress in session, not be considered a far greater security threat, than a nearly empty government building in Portland? Something smells fishy here. 

 

No doubt the capital police failed miserably. But, was it a deliberate failure? And if so, should they be charged with a crime?

It was obvious since years that Trump was only interested in Trump and not the GOP and not America. The GOP politicians could have impeached him together with the DEMs and that would have been the end of Trump. They didn't impeach him and it was obvious to everyone that after that Trump would even more think he is invincible and can do everything. 

When now people like Barr resign that is a bad joke. They enabled Trump for too long.

But then again American politics is about money, money and money. It has little to do with justice, freedom, and all those other things which they pretend to uphold.

If nothing radical happens then I guess America will go down the drain even more. And some day in the future someone will try to remember the time when they were a great country - a long time ago.

This “concession speech” was possibly the most sickening, cynical, insincere, self-serving, hypocritical performance in the sad history of Trump’s political career.  I simply couldn’t bear to watch more than about half of the torturous five minutes.
 

It should be plain to all except Terminal Trumpers that someone (doubtless with something to gain or a lot to lose) forced him to read this awful stuff from a teleprompter by whatever means I wouldn't care to guess at.  He wrote nor believed a single word and I’m betting that after all the garbage about his efforts to fight and uphold democracy, slipping in the part about facts supporting his fraud claims had someone behind the scenes grinding his or her teeth.  It was even sadder then, that his delivery of the speech showed that he’s capable of a semblence of public speaking and leads me to wonder if he had  pharmaceutical help in some way.
 

I hope to goodness that a significant proportion of his supporters see through this charade for what it is: a desperate attempt to avoid the repercussions of not only his recent actions, but four years of lies, mismanagement and misery that will come to be seen as evidence that the democratic system of governance doesn’t always get its choice of leader even half right.

 

It's too late for Impeachment or the 25th Amendment.  From now until the transfer of power Pence should ensure that he's not left alone with his inner circle of cronies who must now be seeing the reality of their own fate and that one or more level headed staff, unafraid to face Trump down are on hand all the time.  Several strong (and armed) guards nearby would be a smart move as well.  Who knows just how crazy this could get in two weeks?

I agree, but 70 million deluded voters voted for him.  I would not put it past the Republicans and Americans to see him run again in 4 years time.  Are people that stupid?  Well yes, apparently they are. Lets hope that Biden is a success.  If he is not, there is no hope for America for a generation. Normally, I wouldn't give a toss about their issues and who they pick as President.  They could and did stew in their own juice, but America leads and protects (sic) the Free World, so it means something to the rest of us.  So they need to get a grip and see him and themselves for what he and they have become.

Perhaps you're not aware of the right-wing echo chamber that exists in America.  Yes, we have a free press.  But Trump was successful (at least to his supporters) in denigrating the mainstream press to the point of removing their credibility to a large segment of America.  I know real life Trump supporters in Thailand who only believe what they read in the right wing press.  And of course, there's that Trump twitter feed which is where many Americans get their news (hard to believe, but true).  The right wing press was also able to convince/scare some Americans into believing that the Dems were socialists who wanted to defund the police.  Again, it's complicated, but Trump was able to get voter turnout to record numbers--both for and against him.  At the end of the day, Americans did the right thing and Trump is out.  God bless America!

No surprise as trump was a disciple of Bannon for years. Stephen Miller (extreme right wing white nationalist)  is still trump's senior advisor and speech writer who is now ensconced with trump at the WH with Giuliano and a few other trump sycophants. trump is the manifestation of radical right ideology based upon Paleo Conservatism supported by Stephen Miller. Whether trump recognised and understood the ideological forces driving him I believe is an open question.
