Thai media 77kaoded posed the question as to whether the resort area of Khao Khor should also enter lockdown after Phu Thap Boek resorts decided to lock down their businesses for the remainder of January.

They published pictures of large numbers of tourists in the area.

Resorts and shops in Phu Thap Boek said they would voluntarily shut down until January 31st to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.

But this is at odds with the feelings in nearby Khao Khor.

Two tourism associations offered differing views - responsibility and long term effect versus keeping the economy going were the issues..

Wutthichai Rojanathiprak of the Phetchabun Tourism Association sided with the Phu Thap Boek operators. He said that 80% of his members were prepared to voluntarily go into lockdown. The people who didn't want to, say that the government had not ordered closure so why should they?

He was of the opinion that it would only be a short term measure and would show that operators cared and had the bigger picture in mind.

Thongchai Krityamongkhonchai of the Khao Khor Tourism Association said that most of his members wanted to adopt a wait and see approach as there had only been one Covid infection in the province and most visitors were from "safe" areas.

He said that his members generally operated bigger businesses than those in Phu Thap Boek and he was of the opinion that keeping the economy going was better than shutting it down at this time.

Though changes in the pandemic situation could change that, he conceded.

Th KK Tourism spokesman might say that the resorts should stay open but the number of tourists coming here at the moment would be lucky to be 20% of normal for this time of the year. We have small resorts on either side of us and they had no customers last weekend and none today so far.

The wife had a good little income earner selling yod mala to two of the bigger resorts but both have cancelled their orders. Before she had to turn other buyers away as she could not produce enough. Now she is lucky to find a buyer anywhere even with a 50% price drop.

Yes, it's quiet for this time of year although the traffic at NY looked pretty normal to me, whether they were passing thru heading further north or not, i do not know?
