Almost 700 asymptomatic patients admitted to field hospitals for observation

686 asymptomatic COVID-19-infected patients have been admitted to field hospitals in Thailand’s Red Zone provinces of Samut Sakhon, Rayong, Chon Buri and Chanthaburi for observation, said Dr. Veeravuth Imsamran, deputy director-general of the Medical Science Department, today (Friday).

He maintained that the existing field hospitals have sufficient in-patient beds, totaling 1,316, including 872 in Samut Sakhon and the rest in the other three coastal provinces.

Field hospitals are intended for asymptomatic cases and those with mild symptoms, while regular hospitals are for severe cases and other patients and are regarded as the main facilities for the prevention of the spread of the contagion, said Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, director-general of the Disease Control Department.

They need to stop testing people, before they run of places to keep all those who aren't sick!

  • As a foreigner I think it would be unlikely ending up there. They have other places for us at which you surrender your wallet at the entrance (or exit) ????

What a joke.

Is that a kiddy day care center?

No air conditioning, no forced air... it looks like a ad-hoc jail.

P.S. This is what my "field hospital" (medical center) looked like. This was the view from my 3m x 3m partitioned space. There was medical equipment for conducting blood pressure checks, oxygen intake, and I even had my own portable O2 pump.

If there was ever a reason to avoid getting tested even if you suspect you have covid then this would be it, come on guys you can do better than that. This is not a field hospital in any shape or form

No way would I voluntarily go and be incarcerated in one of those 'field hospitals' for 2 weeks. I'll be self isolating at home thank you very much.

Did they keep the social distance of 1,5 m?

Exactly.

Have good insurance or sufficient funds and they will find a nice hospital bed for you.

Are these new numbers and what's happened to the thousands who have been diagnosed asymtomatic?

And in case the 5 star hospitals get overcrowded, I'm sure they'll build alternative field hospitals (AFH) for foreigners.

Yes we are lucky having come from 1st world countries, had the opportunities to work, save, invest and go forward in life.

These poor people have to leave their neighbouring countries to come and work here for less than what they pay the Thai's from what I hear with poor working conditions and are put in a truck like sheep to get here with their employer providing them with little if any support and if this government is calling that place a field hospital, I suppose they should be grateful they are not sleeping on the floor, absolutely disgraceful, the question beckons, would they treat their own like this, or foreigners other than those from neighbouring countries like this, I don't think so, so why discriminate, because its a way of life here and they can get away with it, shame, shame, shame on you Thailand.

Avoided too much testing in 2020 without problems and received ridiculous acclaim for their Covid management policy so continuing the trend shouldnt be a problem.

We certainly disagree on this.

Like you said, it may be the first time they actually slept on a mattress.  Looks better then the military cots displayed in the photo I posted from a western country field hospital.  Where they are tossing the dead bodies into refrigerated metal boxes in parking lots.

The room and stations look clean to me with clean sheets and supplies medical staff attending.

Probably much better then any environment they are use too.

It is a field hospital for asymptomatic, not suppose to be Bumrungrad.

it still displays and element of double standards. This looks like a set up for feckless alien laborers.

I doubt any Thai will spend any time in one of those camps.

Is this an example of the world class healthcare system the authorities advertise to lure potential customers into LOS ?

They should look at examples of field hospitals in Yangon instead as an example how it can be done in 3rd world countries.

Looks like a poor man's Glastonbury.

As I posted a few Days ago, these " Field Hospitals " do not seem to have too much in the way of Medical Equipment to treat the Patients.

The " Field Hospitals " just resemble a large Dormitory for Folk to lie down.

At least the Western " Field Hospitals " have screening for prevention of transmission, and some privacy, as well as Medical Equipment on hand.

"asymptomatic patients" is a contradiction in terms, someone who tested positive on the presence of a virus in his body without symptoms is a healthy person with in general an immune system that has been effective in coping with the virus and not getting sick. This looks more like 700 healthy people have been taken in custody.

Although I agree the term.'asymptomatic' is problematic you seem to be ignoring the fact that asymptomatic people can spread and communicate the illness to other people.

Never mind about the 1000's, those are negligible numbers.

What do they do when there's 10,000 new positive test patients per day? Nearly all of who will be asymptomatic.

doesn't look much like a hospital... certainly compared to the additional health care facilities i've seen set up in other countries

Is this center not just to make sure people are isolated?

Here in Denmark a lot of people are not following the self isolation advices from the government, according to a survey with 23000 people.

15 % if those tested positive didn't do correct self isolation.

We only put people in hospitals if they need Healthcare.

The rest have to do self isolation at home, which apperantly is a problem.

So if the Thais are just as bad at doing self isolating maybe a place like that is OK?

In large peasant families, the question of 'self-isolation at home' raises some questions, I should think.

My own immediate Khmer peasant family consists of some 31 members apart from my partner & me. All but 3 of them live on the one tiny farm or within 100m of it. Except (now) when I visit, they don't wear masks.

Finally someone understands what these field hospitals are for. I've seen some ridiculous comments on here. Yes they are very similar to others worldwide.

The whole reason for the field hospitals is to keep the Asymptomatic out of the primary care facilities.

If you test for the virus but are otherwise healthy thats where you go. If your condition detoriates then you go to the top notch facilities. The idea that you will get sicker by being in a room with people who have covid when you already have it is insane. Truly some xenophobic moronic comments tossed up in this thread.
