As he leaves office, Trump pardons former top strategist Bannon

A criminal president pardons criminals with a lot of self interest. This makes America GREAT again :violin:.

As I have altready mentioned in a few threads: The American law and polital system is like a Swiss Cheese - has a lot of holes.

Is there a hope for changing?! Not at all.

Good job Mr Trump. I just hope there is a pardon for Assange  as well.

  • Birds of a feather

I think if you were to follow the money a big chunk of it would have gone to Trump. No way does he let a scam like the border wall build take place without getting a big cut. Lets see if the NY AG   charges him.

Where does this tradition of pardoning come from? Surely it is completely outdated and not suitable for a country which claims it is the greatest democracy in the world?

... with a president (for 1 more day only, thank god) who has proclaimed a million times 'I am your president of law and order'.

I like Bannon's politics.

So as long as someone's politics please you, it's okay if he cheated people out of their money. Such ethic standards are worthy of Trump himself.

Yes. Bannon was such a saint, the Vatican is now considering him for canonization. It is more likely he has serious dirt on Don Don, and Trump's foremost concern going forward is going to be attempting to rescue his collapsing mini empire, and staying out of prison.

Yes. Bannon was such a saint, the Vatican is now considering him for canonization. The work that he did to benefit mankind was staggering. What a guy.

So the fact that Bannon was being charged with embezzling money from Trump supporters, from a fund that was supposed to go to pay for Trump's border wall, doesn't give you any pause for thought?

And now if Bannon is called as a witness in Trump trial, he cannot claim 5th amendment right against self incrimination and will have to testify. If he doesn't he can be indefinitely jailed for contempt of court & if he lies, he could be tried for perjury, neither of which Trump could pardon him for.

He's not exempt from State charges so he can still invoke the 5th.

OK, disagree, but up to you.

So you don't mind about his 'build the wall scam', ripping off people who like his politics?

Are you sure about that? So if Trump is in copurt on federal charges, Bannon can invoke the 5th because he might face state charges? I think this can not be true, many people would be able to do this.

Thank you, President Trump, best president ever!

If it wasn't for Bannon DT would have dropped out of the 2016 race after the "grab 'em by the kitty" story broke.  He was the impetus behind the "b_lls to the wall" election challenge, telling da boss we hold all the cards: we have the Senate, the Courts/SCOTUS, and an inspired following.  I would guess he was the voice of encouragement, along with Flynn, for the physical assault on the Capitol, details of which are still to be revealed.

Bannon is a man of the world, an evangelist for fascism and nationalism wherever he goes, especially in Europe, and I think some countries are getting fed up with him.  Eventually he'll fly into a country and be met by a gov't escort who will provide free accommodation in a secure, stone room, and no friends in high places to get him out.

Hey, if the DT fans are ok with his buddies ripping them off, then it's ok with me!  It helps the rest of us to understand who they are, and why people like DT and Bannon seek their support.

Does this mean he cannot be prosecuted for embezzling all that money from the political funds?.....Surelynot?

I would like to see Biden to commit to no pardons during his administration......set the standard.

Disagree with your call for Biden to foreswear any pardons. I would be more inclined to agree if focused on "political" based crime but ... as long as we have the current judicial system, I must recognize that there is miscarriage of justice for some.

Was thinking the same.  Along with Bannon, Trump pardoned a number of corrupt politicians.  This is the essence of the swamp.  Trump ended the way he started, corrupt to the core.

There's an entire division within the Dept. of Justice devoted to seeking out cases that are truly worthy of pardons. It has identified thousands of such cases. If anything, there should be more pardons and commutations made. But they should be confined to  those who are not well-connected.

And you are OK with his crimes?  As for his politics, he's what helped start the disastrous Trump presidency.  Look how that turned out. An attempted coup, an attempt to kill the VP, and 6 people now dead.

Come on....this is what you like?  Stunning...and terrible...

Quote

Bannon told journalist Michael Lewis in February 2018, "We got elected on Drain the Swamp, Lock Her Up, Build a Wall. This was pure anger. Anger and fear is what gets people to the polls." He added, "The Democrats don't matter. The real opposition is the media. And the way to deal with them is to flood the zone with <deleted>."[263]

No pardons for the suckers he incited to attempt a coup on his behalf.

I’ve said all along, he does give a fig for his ‘supporters’.

First it was Mexico which was going to pay for the wall.

Then it was that the U.S. would pay fro the wall but we would get Mexico to reimburse us.

Then it was an emergency decree to steal government funds to pay for the wall.

Then it was steve bannon grifting trump supporters to pay for the wall, and skimming his cut.

All for a useless wall in the middle of nowhere.

About sums up the previous "adminstration".

A useless project, uncompleted, wasted funds, corruption and a pardon.

Great move by Trump. Bannon is a master strategist. He was one of the architects of the successful MAGA movement that got minorities back into work, got the economy back on track, all the historic peace deals in the ME etc. I envisage Trump and Bannon teaming up to create a new media platform. One that welcomes free speech and champions America and American people. This will be a wonderful new era, can't wait to see it all roll out and lead up to the 2022 midterms.

So you support a criminal who defrauded Americans and took their money? Strange person.
