yesterday went very smooth indeed. no problems what so ever. no violence or anything at all. just a normal day of a new president being sworn in. just like any other time.

The national guard out on mass and the perpetrators of last weeks violence suddenly aware that their leader had chosen not to pardon them.

  • Far from it. Is it normal for the outgoing president to skulk off before the inauguration? Is it normal for the outgoing president and his wife  not to  welcome the incoming president and his wife to

  • Why wouldn't they be? I would imagine every country in the world, barring Israel and Russia, is happier today.

  • No mention of China or the Ukraine. I bet they're both happy.

We are back!!hopefully wiser for our brush with a coup and a fascist takeover of our democracy back to offering a hand up not a push down contributing to the common good were possible a good day for all

Back for a time but now we know how incredibly fragile American democracy is and how close it came to being destroyed by the movement of an anti democratic pro authoritarian demagogue con man. The white supremacist demagogue and the perverted ideas he represents are still out there in numbers among the American electorate. They will try again. Decent democracy loving Americans should not get too comfortable with this recent victory. The struggle to keep it ain't over.

look. posters on here were positive certain things were going to happen. none of which did. hence my comment.

now nothing happened and it's still what ?

nothing happened. i wonder if those persons are big enough to admit they were totally wrong in their judgement of what would happen yesterday.

SPANISH PRIME MINISTER PEDRO SANCHEZ, SPEAKING AT A PUBLIC EVENT

"The (election) victory of Biden represents the victory of democracy over the ultra-right and its three methods, the massive deception, the national division and the abuse, even violent, of democratic institutions... Five years ago, we thought Trump was a bad joke, but five years later we realized he jeopardized nothing less than the world's most powerful democracy."

An exceptionally apt, articulate, piercing assessment by the Spanish PM, telling it like it is.

I only wish we had heard such a clear-headed, concise assessment from more of the U.S. politicians during Trump's tenure.

World leaders are jumping for joy so much that it looks like a cirq de soleil audition.

and a new one was sworn in. time to move on and build for the future. maybe now is a great time for a media blackout on the don.

good press or bad press....it still keeps him right where he wants to be. in the spotlight.

You can't prevent the media from reporting on all his trials. He'll be in the spotlight for years.

To expand on my last post about our recent grim lesson on the fragility of American democracy.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2021/01/20/democracy-survived-barely/

"Democracy survived, barely"

World leaders noticed too.

The authoritarians among them were no doubt hoping that American democracy would fall.

Happily it didn't, at least yet.

You do realize, the news report video you posted is largely about a crowd of protesters/vandals attacking, defacing and breaking windows at a local Democratic Party office?

That is how they acted in public.

I would love to see how they acted in private.
