So you wanna turn Pattaya into a retirement home? No thanks, might as well move to Florida.

PS. My apologies if your post was sarcasm.

There are thousands of farangs who have invested in Pattaya. They were happy with things as they were. The reaction to this coronavirus has devastated the tourist industry, and the knock on effect is felt all over.

Ladies, who their families relied on for monthly dosh, have returned to their villages. And of course, because there are only so many cashier and clerical jobs a village can support, these lasses cannot find work. Virtually every family in my village - and surrounding villages - are up to their neck in debt. There are 'hot sales' everywhere. The poor are desperate. And there is little in the present situation that gives hope for the near future. These messages from TIT and TAT are worthless bits of exhaled air, and by-and-large are not even registering with the millions of Isaan Thais anyway.

Thailand is a rich country. It has virtually everything it needs for long-term prosperity. What is needed is vision. Vision for the short term, medium term and beyond. What it doesn't need IMO is a revamped Pattaya catering for old farangs, looking for cheap living and sunshine. Pattaya has a certain aura attached to it. Now; does it stick or twist?

Country-wide, the whole place needs to be woken up. Without getting too political; where are the leaders? Where are the visionaries?

Why is marriage like a hurricane?......at first everything feels calm, cosy and warm.....then suddenly your house has gone.

A: Because when they come, they are wet and wild but when they go  they will take your house and car!

Once covid-19 has been completed eradicated, Pattaya's 'family resort' will return back to its glory days.

Trust you don't mind waiting several years.

It has been estimated that eradication across the world will take almost 7 years from two  recent studies, even with vaccinations.

When is the breaking point of no return for most businesses in Pattaya? Meaning the ones that have not already packed up for good.

Make you right there NL.

But I was thinking more of Thais. The only one I can think of in recent times was chucked out of government. Do the Thais not want to move forward? Are the powers-that-be so entrenched that nothing can ever change?

Giving over industries, land and securities to China for a fast train, enhanced military hardware or advanced 5G tech' hardly, IMO, moves the country forward in the right direction.

Thailand should sit down with world visionaries (not from the IMF), and thrash out a 20 year plan. I'm sure that among the farang here in Thailand there is much expertise and knowledge that could be of use. I personally spent many years designing water systems all over the world. I'd give my thoughts and ideas* for free.

* I drew up a comprehensive water system for Northern Isaan. Gave the whole file (also on flash-drive) to an appropriate government man in Udon Thani 7 years ago. Maybe he's still translating it?! Or it got put in the bin.

I've be monitoring the rents around Pattaya since the first wave. Back then, I rented a central condo for 20k and arrived in high season (pre-C19). In april I managed to haggle it down to 15k as the owner recognized it all was getting deserted. (In february/early march there was still hope). Now she contacts me to rent it for 10k, a neat -50% YoY discount.

However, selling prices hasn't followed down as sharply IMHO. There are of course discounts but nothing as near as the rental drops.

yes that is based on current vaccination rates world wide which im sure will change very quickly

I presume you are looking at the bloomberg data for this.

According to current vaccination rates US will have herd immunity within 9 month, UK within 6 months.

Canada 7 years.

Im sure Canada will ramp this up for sure.

I have no doubt many many 3rd world countries will take years to vaccinate enough of its people, however im sure most of the 1sr world countries will vaccinate enough to have herd immunity as soon as they can.

According to much research, corona 'viruses' have been here for thousands of years*. There will soon be mutations as there have always been.

The solution (if you watch CNN, BBC, Fauci or Brar) is vaccines and then more vaccines.

As soon as this particular complaint reared it's head, the call should have gone out to eat certain healthy natural foods, get plenty of sunshine and if, in the case of deficiency, VitD, VitK and zinc supplements. Didn't hear too much about that early on or now.

The realization that the vaccination of farang in their home country is not the only part of reviving tourism to Thailand.

The vaccine has to roll out across Thailand also, before vaccinated farang will be allowed to visit, and obviously Thai's here don't have confidence in their government to expedite that.

Allowed is somewhat ambiguous , want to is more correct .

I heard that Walking Street is to be renamed Crawling Street

I understand that corona virus are not new, however these studies were base on the current virus for which vaccines are currently being rolled out. Yes mutations have already beenexperienced and I was speaking about a post on "eradication"

I will not comment on vitamin therapy in any way shape or form for this or any other other illness.

What's wrong with retirement home living? Florida only has high priced Cuban babes and old white women. Pattaya has Soi 6. Retired expats rule!

More than just  to buy

I saw the article emojis that were used to respond to the article. I just don't see how 5 people could be laughing about this. (Some of the following comments, yes, but the article itself...)

Why do some get so hung up on this? Every major city in the world has 'prostitution'.

I am from London, and in the heart of the tourism centre of the West End in Soho is one of London biggest Red Light district. Tokyo, Sydney, Delhi, Paris, New York all have prostitution. Hell most major cities prostitution is legal - be it Amsterdam, German cities, Las Vegas !

Thailand is not the only city with prostitution. Get over it !

The vaccines that are currently being rolled out - AZ - Pf- Mod - are not vaccines at all. They are experimental drugs* that have DNA enhancing/altering sequences of RNA in them. I have not researched the China and Russian 'vaccines', or others, but I am led to understand that they are based on more traditional 'vaccine' science.

I'm not advocating vitamin therapy (per se) but a more holistic approach to one's body. In short; give the body what it needs to fight toxins and poisons.

* CDC has put them on their list to be classed experimental until Dec' 2023.

Covid 19 will never be 'eradicated' just like the common flu won't be we will just have to learn to live with it as we do with the flu. But once the vaccine starts to be rolled out things should improve, but I agree several years, but it won't be the same as before, very sad!!

Running water.

Yes!  Across beach road EVERY rainy season

Sewage management.

Yes!  They manage to somehow scoop it up and dump it on the beaches.

The roads.

Yes!  In Pattaya, all roads lead to ruin!
