Thailand discovers naturally carbonated water fountain in Kanchanaburi

Thailand’s Department of Groundwater Resources has discovered an underground, highly carbonated and drinkable water source in Kanchanaburi province.

 

The department’s director-general, Sakda Wichiensilp, said that this is the first of its kind to be discovered in Thailand. He said that the fizzy water even tastes slightly sweet.

 

The department discovered the carbonated water during the search for underground water resources for farmers in the area. The one with the carbonated water is the third well being drilled in Laokwan district and it struck water at a depth of 303 metres. The water currently shoots up to around 1.8 meters above the surface at a rate of about 50 cubic meters per hour.

Wondered where I left that 5 million liter cannister of carbonation for my soda machine...looks like they found it and my migrant worker smuggling tunnel.

Officials intend to drill another six wells and will declare the area a groundwater reserve, to prevent private-sector drilling, which can cause contamination.

Sakda said he expects each body of groundwater will provide more than 500 million cubic meters, which will supply people in 11 villages and 480 hectares of farmland in Huay-Krachao district which is often hit by severe periods of drought.

 

So, you have a commercially viable source of carbonated water at 1000' depth, and you're going to use it to cultivate rice, which requires 2500 liters of water per kg of rice... 

 

Irrigating crops with Perrier...

Yes... this what you bottle and sell back to Europe where people love carbonated water, and steal some bottle design ideas from Fuji, declaring this a billion years old or whatever and charge premium dollar... I mean Euro for it...

Leave it to Thailand to find a natural Artesian well and turn it into water for crops instead of building a plant, collecting it, selling it for billions and then trucking in water at less than half of the profit to irrigate.

We are producing up to 6,430,000,000 litres of water from the great artesian basin below the Sahara desert. This water is also  highly carbonated which is corrosive to steel and concrete pipes. If you are not going to bottle it, you need to degas it.

How long can this aquifer last?  I am sure they don't care.   Just use it now and tomorrow take care of itself  Buddha fashion.

Mont Fleur bottled water comes from a hot spring source in Ratchaburi. Ranong water, too. Since the water's too salty to drink in the capital, this is a viable alternative.
