Thai Baht Expected to Slide to 35.50 per Dollar by 2025
There are a number of factors involved. Under the IMFs Managed Floating Peg, BOT has the option to intervene or not, based on the country's economic need. But BOT also has to model the chances that any intervention will be successful or whether it will only be temporary and as a consequence, a waste of money in the longer term, in which case it may elect not to intervene and merely go with the flow. You mention a better rate last May or June, against which currency, GBP or USD? The value of THB against USD is fairly straight forward, the above managed peg notwithstanding. But even against USD, it is entirely possible to have different exchange rates at different times, despite the USD value being the same, based on BOT's decision to intervene or not. And of course, the value of THB against GBP uses three currencies to arrive at an effective exchange rate, this means USD may be stronger whilst GBP is weaker, the net of which could easily give a different rate, at a different time, despite USD value being lower/or stronger. And finally of course is the strength or weakness of the Thai economy and the view markets have of it going forward. If that changes when all other factors are equal, the exchange rate will once again be different from what it was earlier. -

Trump’s ‘stunningly unqualified’ diplomatic team shapes up at breakneck speed
Since the OP is based on nothing other than forecasted performance, here's mine. 5 minutes after Trump's inauguration, the truth about the economy will be revealed and it won't be pretty. They'll, of course, blame it on the Bad Orange Man, but it'll really be yet another downward revision like they've been doing every month on the jobs numbers. Perfect example is when the millions of unemployed illegals start being counted in the "available labor pool", and the real unemployment rate becomes public. Right now, they're hiding it... The right wing press is forecasting even worse (some even using the D word), but here's one from long before the election results were known: In light of recent economic developments, J.P. Morgan Research has raised the probability of a U.S. and global recession starting before end-2024 to 35%. The probability of a recession happening by the end of 2025 remains unchanged at 45%. https://www.jpmorgan.com/insights/global-research/economy/recession-probability -

When describing a resident of Thailand it is normally assumed "Chinese" refers to ethnicity. Just saying. Not trying to start an argument. -

Who lives on 20k a month ?
I did a little looking into the visa situation. If done through an agency, the DN visa (where one officially needs sponsorship) can be done without said sponsorship. Probably in a way that isn’t much different than how people in Thailand nurse an agent to get around the financial requirements for the “retirement” visa. One Vietnam visa website specifically addresses this in their FAQ section. https://www.getvisavietnam.com/vietnam-business-visa/ Yes, the visa laws can change in a heartbeat although I could see them becoming more open to retirees in the future with an official retiree visa which isn’t currently available…officially. However, Thailands visa laws can also change in a heartbeat as can their worldwide income taxation structure and as they treat capital gains (from non SET listed companies) like income rather than the way the US taxes them (0%….or 15% up to a very high limit), that is a dealbreaker (for me). With regards to their relationship with China, it appears (to me) that Thailand has a similar relationship with China. I see more Chinese tourists in Thailand than I am currently seeing here in Vietnam although I have seen a few of the busses that you mention. It is monsoon season currently so there aren’t that many tourists in general. The honking of horns is definitely an issue here in general but not nearly as bad as Hanoi in the Hoan Kiem area. So far, I haven’t seen any pollution on the beach (My Khe) and much less than I would see in Thailand in general scattered about the city. Let’s see what the future holds. Cheers
