At what speed limit do the speed cameras catch you on the Superhighway?

Featured Replies

I recently got a ticket for 130+ kmh in a 90 around where the Superhighway meets the 1141.

But I'm pretty sure I've gone fast on there with no ticket.

Does anyone know at what speed the camera issues tickets?

No irrelevant answers if possible.

Why don't you stick to the speed limits and save lives???

  • Speed doesn't necessarily kill however I am betting that stupidity causes more accidents.

  • Speed plays a part in every accident.  If your vehicle was moving at only 5 kph and it hit something, it was moving too fast.

I can say that I have had my fair share of tickets over these past couple of years. I lowest one was for doing 101 kmh in a 90 kmh zone. Generally speaking I think most are given when one is doing 120 kmh and above but I have also been given one for doing 109 kmh.

Good question.  I've gotten a ticket going 122 kph, so as someone said, 120 might be the cutoff.  But who knows for sure?  Of a big concern also are the cameras at intersections that might catch one going through a yellow/red light.  I've had a few friends get nailed for just following others through a yellow light, even in heavy traffic.

Perhaps the speed limit where the camera kicks is deliberately confidential.

It's been mentioned before that the total numbers of 'camera' tickets issued for speeding and for going through red lights is utterly enormous, so maybe the cameras now work on a random pattern to cut the number of tickets down a bit?

We have all seen enough horrific videos of accidents and their aftermath on TVF to be convinced that speed kills. And speeding is an act of stupidity.

To those who climb up on their soapbox and claim that it does not, I have this to say:

'Yes you're right, speed doesn't kill-------until the day that it does!'

So onto the O/Ps question. @leonardjones625 it is the general practice, and I mean 'general' in the broadest sense, to set speed trap cameras at the posted speed limit plus 10%. That is to allow for errors within vehicles speedometers that the driver would not be aware of.

Clearly this would not apply in your case as you were obviously well over the limit.

Stay safe everyone. There's no need to rush in this life.

As a motorcyclist, I do have to agree with that one.

I guess you should drive in OZ where the speed limit in build up areas (towns, cities) is 60kmh

you do 62 you will get a ticket.

Your right as it's the momentum.

Don't forget momentum!

Only a fool drives past a speed camera over the limit, when they know where it is.  Driving around CM on the super & ringroads, there is no point in speeding.  Save a few seconds on your journey?

Driving down to BKK & beyond is different ????

They never catch you if you use Waze, but if you don't use it it's always above 120 km/h, never under, ANYWHERE and WHATEVER signs display.

Agreed.  How about not putting peoples lives at risk with your irresponsible driving habits.  Whatever your fine was, it wasn't enough.

Yep.  Good for you.  Your the first person to get to the next stop light.  Congratulations.  Putting peoples lives at risk for freaking nothing.  Drive in the right lane flow of traffic without being an accident waiting for a place to happen.

I always thought it was the rapid deceleration...

Unless there is a medical emergency, there is no 'need' for excessive speed. Getting to the mall one minute and  forty five seconds sooner will not get you a special price.

There IS, however, the 'desire' for excessive speeding... the sheer joy of it. That's understandable. But if you are the sort who speeds because of the sheer joy of it, and puts dozens of other people's lives at risk because of it, at least have the self-awareness to realize just how <deleted>@king selfish and self-centered you are. Here in Thailand, you are killing and maiming hundreds every day! At least have the honesty to admit that to yourself.

As a motorcyclist your less likely to take anyone else out by speeding unlike the people who drive cars.

As for the guy that says speed does not kill stupidity does, usually both are combined. Most people speeding think they are great drivers (stupidity part) and then take out some other innocent people who stick to the speed limit.

Speed kills? You are scientifically absolutely wrong. At this very moment you are moving at about 1,500kph due to the Earth's rotation on it's axis. Add to that about about 100,000 kph due to the Earth's rotation around the Sun. And the numbers go up from there if we count the Sun's rotation around the center of our galaxy, and our galaxy's motion though the universe. We are all currently moving at unimaginable speeds (many kilometers PER SECOND).

Question: Why aren't we all dead? Answer: Because speed DOES NOT kill. Speed, in and of itself, NEVER kills. It is the sudden acceleration/deceleration that does it. Usually caused by your impact with the car interior, the ground, or other stationary object. Or sudden acceleration of another object we collide with. This is what we need to avoid. Not speed.

Good luck collecting that fine ????

Sure are a lot of " Holier than Thou" post on this thread.

Or should I say "Hole-ier than Thou" 555

My wife got a ticket. Said whe was doing 130kph in a 120kph road which was thrown out later when the police realised the speed trap was reading 40kph with no vehicles being measured.

But to answer your question, probably within 5kph if it is a brnd new installation. For older instllations, considering the lack of maintenance that takes place, could be anything

Anyone use a radar detector?

I use "radarbot" app on my pickup's android screen on long distance drives.  Warns you of fixed speed traps (probably a few are just traffic cameras) so can slow down.  Tend to keep below 110 anyway.
