A leading former geologist at Chula university and councillor in Prachuap Khiri Khan said that the construction of the Klong Wan port in Muang district was a case study in most things that could go wrong.

It was a dreadful waste of 430 million baht of harbor department money, said Thiwa Suphajanya.

Environmental impact studies were not properly made for the port that was finished in 2008.

It has silted up and is now largely unusable.

In addition the sea walls and construction has changed the sea patterns resulting in more money needed to be thrown at repairing damage caused by erosion to the shore.

Wisdom of fisherman whose opinions were ignored in the rush to construct the port was another point in the mistakes that were made, reported Talk News Online

Could be worse......if they had the UK's SERCO Test and Trace system then they would know what waste was.

They could have built 3,200 ports and still had change left over with what Test and Trace has cost.

I think replace 'fisherman' with poor and you may have something

I think it would have been obvious

i live about 5 south of klong wan at low tides the whole sea front up to and including the port area is a mud flat

certainly not a place for deep "ish" even seaport

NCC1701A, have you given your approval for this project yet?

Sounds to me like normal Thai building practices to me; do it and wonder why it went wrong later !

Give it another year or so and the build-up of silt will provide reclaimed land on which to build illegal structures......????

This port seems like a good spot for the new submarines from China!
