A senior figure from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has tested positive for COVID-19, Thai media reported on Sunday.

Mr Thanet Phetsuwan, TAT’s Deputy Governor of Marketing and Communications, tested positive for COVID19 on 10th April.

According to Siam Rath, Mr Thanet contracted the virus after playing “golf with friends” on 4 April.

This was the same day Mr Thanet attended the Minister Cup 2021, which took place on 4 April, at the Alpine Golf Club Bangkok.

According to TAT’s press release, the event was attended by “diplomats of foreign embassies, representatives of foreign chambers of commerce, and high-ranking officials from Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports”.

The tournament was organized “in line with the Royal Thai Government’s ‘Stay Play Safe’ policy under a collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Ministry of Public Health, and other tourism-related public and private organisations”, TAT said.

“The aim is to build confidence in Thailand’s public health measures against COVID-19, while strengthening the economy with stimulus packages.”

TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn revealed that he tested negative for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the TAT has ordered staff from its Bangkok HQ to work from home until the end of  April.

The aim is to build confidence... Thai government nails it again, Bullseye!

You are on a roll.

The top government officials are being picked off in rapid succession. Their plan to instill confidence is proceeding about as well as their plans for vaccines. At the current rate all the administration's top officials will be quarantined by the end of the virus spreading holiday

Which small island should we quarantine the entire Government on to stop them infecting the nation? And maybe forget where they are??? Or maybe a redundant cruise ship circumnavigating the gulf until the crisis is all over. Then join Covax and save the population whilst they are out of the way!

Does that mean the current golf quarantine packages are about to be kicked into touch ?

Another dismal failure from the hub of dismal failures ????

Suffering, but at home on full pay. Life can be tough at times.

No words required.

Until someone else from that tournament comes forward with the virus, proclaiming that he was exposed and contracted COVID19 at the tournament is just speculative clap dung.  This guy interacts with many people and travels many places. You can't just pull a location out of the hat and say, that's it.   Quit all your belly aching (b)witching TFV.

Now lets see how TAT spins this one.. ???? A new slogan in making?

Do you see the stupid plastic face guards.  Yeah, what moron actually believes those are going to stop a virus?  I mean, really?
So, yeah, I absolutely understand why Covid is starting to spread like wild-fire, especially among the Hi-So (although rather unintelligent) community.
Anyone who thinks a plastic face-mask is stopping a micron sized virus needs their head examined. But boy oh boy, the Hi-Sos and TV celeb love them.  <cough, cough, hack, hack>

He was with foreigners, and all Thais know that foreigners are dirty Covid carriers who don't shower and wear dirty clothes.  Just ask the Health Minister.

Yea they are all wearing them apart from that one bloke back row on the left who's on his phone, is that the TAT director......LOL

Why are these ridiculous sports events still being allowed?  And, with no safeguards in place?  Everyone standing right next to each other wearing those useless clear plastic face 'shields.  Madness.

Are you sure it was not a caddy who contaminated the TAT guy? I don't play golf but I have been told that in some clubs caddies do more than just taking care of you(r) golf "equipment".
