Finally some good news: Thailand tipped to ease 90 day reporting for foreigners

In order to do this, it is proposed that foreigners will be allowed to purchase and own outright a house located on a development valued from 10 million baht, with a land size of not more than 1 Rai.

Well I might be interested in that at some point in the future so long as the land and building is not massively overpriced.

I won't be holding my breath though....

    Pure fantasy.

  • They could scrap the current 90 day reports and instate a new 3 month report. That'd fool us!

The types of foreign retirees targeted will be those who have a healthy pension pot, with the ability to spend 200,000 - 300,000 baht per month.

So, it's not really going to help many of us at all is it.

The only way things would ease for foreigners in Thailand is if the country gets hacked and all Thais get cancelled lol

Why do they always have to say something like this in their reports? Do they not know how lo-so that sounds? How discriminatory? They already

make retiree's lock up 800k for most of the year....Is it never enough Thailand?

That aside who the H3ll is going to spend $9527 USD per month to live in Thailand?

Anyone with that budget can live..........anywhere nice they want with little or no restrictions

is the 90 day reporting really that much of a burden ?

Yes it is for some of us, as i cannot go myself, my wife has to take time off from her work to do it, yes  a bloody BIG burden.

Ok, so there is an improvement they should look into.

Probably will mean for us that instead of submitting 264 signed documents for a ordinary visa extension it will be reduced to have to submit only 263 signed documents..????

Even prior to corona somany long stayers have left out of frustration with the visa extension complexity process and these awkward airport interrogations of why this year we travel to Thailand again?

The online 90 day reporting has been broke for two months with no estimate of when ( or even if) it will be fixed. Now with the surge in Covid, who wants to wait with a bunch of people in a close area?

Times are different, just maybe they may do something positive, but allow falangs ownership of land, not in our lifetime.

Maybe they scap 90 day reporting? Better than nothing.

Thailand's immigration laws are from the 50's, perhaps earlier.  Reform is desperately needed.  90 day reports and re-entry permits are money makers for the immigration officials.  Big money.  Remember the comments about the head of immigration in Pattaya having to pay 20MM Baht for his job?  Ya gotta take a lot in to make that investment pay off.

Best of luck to them sorting this out.  It won't be easy.  Need to address the corruption.

Who in the known universe has a retirement income of 200.000-300,000 a month.

I laughed when I first read it, then an actual tear came to my eye.

I would be living in a villa in the south of France if i had that income.

Lots of people I know make that kind of money.  You can live like a king here on that, but not in the South of France.

More <deleted> if I had that type of monthly income I can guarantee that Thailand would definitely not be my first preference to live I cannot visualise anyone who has a 200 to 300 K monthly income settling down on a permanent basis in the Kingdom in the meantime those of us who have lived here for many years supporting the local economy will be ignored .

Whole lotta nothing. This place is just so full of BS.

Good ideas = nothing happens. Change = for the worse.

Easier = sillier & more difficult. Schemes, scams, stupidity, greed & BS = Thailand.

Sad but true.

They are akin to a drowning man grabbing at straws, All they can see is large amounts of money moving around. It is greed, pure and simple. They do not give a toss for the normal retirees on modest pensions, even if you have a Family here. The Governments racist xenophobic attitude towards Foreigners, (except their Lords and Masters in Beijing), will ensure that there will always be hoops to jump through, all that will happen is they will move the goalposts around.

i could name 30 countries where you better off with this kind of money. Bloomberg publishes this list every year

For this they need a TASK FORCE with a former head of JPMorgan Securities (Thailand) !!! hahaha, end on the end nothing will change. Waiste of money.

"The government says that if...". If, in these parts is related to, "maybe, we hope, perhaps, we quess, we wish, we are high and had this vision that millions of fools will shower us with trillions of baht".

"in order to do this, it is proposed that foreigners will be allowed to purchase and own outright a house located on a development valued from 10 million baht, with a land size of not more than 1 Rai"

besides the 100k p m and review of 90 d report this could be a good initiative if only there would be nó minimum value of 10 million and max 1 rai!

they think just like banks, the biggest profit on the smallest risc...

100k p m is also a challenge, who spends this month after month year in year out?

Can you share a link to it?  For many, visas are a big issue with other countries.  The process here isn't great, but not terrible either for getting a proper visa. If over 50.

The Op sounds like it was written by a bar girl 555

So instead of the 300 baht round trop taxi fare to file my 90 day...All I need do is spend 200-300K baht per month (I'm sure bank statements and receipts will be required) and I can get out of filing ?

how can you spend 100k a month here?  what on earth for? hardly Beverly Hills

Here comes the Super Elite A1 5 star hyper visa ......

I have said this before I will say it again!

One would be crazy to consider to retire here, I have been here for 16 years taking care of my girls family buying houses, educating her children, spending large sums of money every month and the government could care less.

They have moved immigration far from where I live

            No more reporting online

In the past I was able to go into the national park for Thai pricing             with a Thai driver licence now it is 400 baht for me to get in.

          Dual pricing everywhere

800,000 baht deposited in a bank of which there is little interest and           I have to pay tax on that interest.

Just to name a few DO NOT RETIRE HERE THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT LIKE YOU!

Our friends are renting a house for 65k per.  Sure, a nice house, but still.  Good apartments in Bangkok go for more than that.
