Junk Shop accepting Old Fridges?

Featured Replies

My tenant has been complaining about the fridge-freezer in the condo I rent to her - it still works but is not keeping the food as cold as previously. An engineer has inspected it and said it is 10 years old so he cannot get spares.

So I have bought her a new fridge and need to dispose of the old one. In Phuket there are lots of local junk shops who will take an old appliance for refurbishment or spare parts; can anyone suggest a place in Pattaya who will uplift it? I don't want anything for it but I would hate that it end up in landfill if someone can make use of it.

The area is Pratumnak. Thanks!

Just pass the word round that's you are giving away the fridge..many will come calling.

Do you have a maid / cleaner ? - give it to her... of course, the difficulty with this is actually getting the bulky item anywhere.

Tell the security guards, they should be able to work it out.

Yeah, if it's set out by the garbage dumpsters with a sign that says "ฟรี" (free) and it will probably disappear within a day or two as some recycler will scoop it and try to resell it for a couple hundred baht.

Ten years is not old for a refrigerator and almost everything on fridge can be repaired with local materials.  Would consider a new "engineer" for future issues.

But as said it will not end up in a landfill - just give it away or place on street.

Maybe too late now, but the guys delivering the new fridge would likely have assisted in the 'disposal' of the old fridge. In their line of work these kind of opportunities would be a perk of the job.

The people delivering the new one will typically take the old one away free, and you can bet it does not end up in a landfill...

Trucks roll through my neighborhood on a regular basis taking anything made of metal, including old refrigerators. They likely exist in Pattaya.

Just metal? Plastic bottles, glass ones and cardboard/paper too can be collected in my village. Mrs has a phone number and gets some cash off him. He takes away my 'wall of beer' (empty cases).

Thank you all - I had suspected that it was going to be up to me dispose but it seems that the agent was fishing to take possession of it. All sorted.

Different guy with a motocy cart comes for those types of things. The pickup guy only wants metal, since he is heading to a scrapyard to collect money for metal. In fact, four different "collectors" come through the neighborhood in a typical week.
