Covid cluster happened after woman from Ratchada "service establishment" came to visit for a som tam party

Sanook reported that 14 people were infected with Covid-19 in the Feuang Fa 10 housing estate in Soi Mangkorn, Samut Prakan south east of Bangkok.

Investigations revealed that the source of the outbreak was a woman who works at a "service establishment" in the Ratchada area of the capital.

This is a Thai euphemism for a prostitute at a place of prostitution, notes Thaivisa.

The mother of a 37 year old man was infected after attending a som tam (papaya salad) party in Soi 6 in the housing estate where the woman had visited.

The 37 year old man, his wife and children were negative but his mother was now in hospital.

The Ratchada area is well known in Bangkok for having many massage parlors though all should be closed at present due to Covid regulations, notes Thaivisa.

I note TVF says 'should be closed', rather than 'have been closed'.

Hmm.

Perhaps wait for tomorrow's news about a police raid in the area?

Oh the outrage......

....so this lady was patient zero ??? she didn’t contract SARS-CoV-2 from a government minister or high flyer who had travelled into Thailand without quarantine and then visiting a ’service establishment’ ?

I’m not implying this lady is guilt free and unaccountable for the spread of SARS-CoV-2... but the investigation and tracking should not stop with her just because its easier to point the finger and make moral judgement against someone working in the ‘service establishments’ than it is to point the finger at someone connected or with power.

Of course, she could have as easily picked up SARS-CoV-2 from the local market or anywhere else.

Tracing doesn’t stop with her, but it appears the judgement has.

I would be more concerned about the health effects of som-tam than C19.

Very true. Regarding one of the ingredients:

A few Thai doctors have in the past warned locals about eating uncooked fermented fish (Pla Ra), as it can cause liver disease.

Only by lying underneath to check it.

'Covid cluster happened after woman from Ratchada "service establishment" came to visit for a som tam party'

So she was there to toss the salad?

'a woman who works at a "service establishment" '

The reporters did my job for me.

'This is a Thai euphemism for a prostitute at a place of prostitution'

This would be much more fun if the reporters DIDN'T do my job for me.

'The mother of a 37 year old man was infected after attending a som tam (papaya salad) party in Soi 6 in the housing estate where the woman had visited. '

Ok, now I'm confused again, did the mother toss the salad too?

'The Ratchada area is well known in Bangkok for having many massage parlors'

As opposed to the rest of Bangkok?   Been there once.  I recall arriving, spending 24 hours in traffic, and leaving.  I never left the cab, sorry, Tuktuk.

I make my wife eat that outside, just a shame I can't move the loo outside for the days afterwards. Maybe get her a bucket.

Automatic or manual?

Whoever decided to have a party during the time of restrictions is at blame here.

No party  = no outbreak.

Maybe closed but house calls are all the rage now.

Isn't it some tom?

I do wonder what exposure us required?   Did the woman just leave virus in the air?  Did she and mom touch some same surface in the kitchen?  Some things just scientifically hard to even replicate in a laboratory test.   Can't really do tests with real humans with a potentially deadly virus.  Plus how would you control subjects before and after a test to know where they caught the virus from.

not sure if I missed something in the article but how do they know that the 'service provider' was the cause of the covid cluster. I mean, is there proof or have they simply pointed the finger at her because of her profession?

More of a medical judgement. Prostitues spread more infections than any other occupation.

No. Easier, and a thousand times more likely to be picked up from tens of blokes slobbering saliva and other bodily fluids over her.

That's why these places are supposed to closed currently. Markets are open.

Looks like she is a super spreader. But it is cute that you are defending her.

keep cranking it over until you get a spark.... make sure everything is well lubricated... the bounce test will check if the shock absorbers are doing their job right.

Here we go again....   another RobMuir debate !!..

Another one where you have edited my comments into your quote to fit your point - you conveniently missed out a key points to shift my point to your desired field of battle.

How did ’she contract SARS-CoV-2 ???....  poor burmese labourers don’t visit Ratchada knocking shops (I assume).

I believe you are correct that her profession as a ’service provider’ places her at far greater risk or both contracting and spreading the virus - a Super-Spreader as you wrote... Agreed.....

But how much more of a super-spreader is a hooker who see’s 10 guys a day vs or the taxi driver who takes 30 customers a day? - how effective are the mask etc etc...

There is definitely an element of ‘faux outrage’ due to her profession... a level of moral sanctimony....

What about the ‘hi-so’s who visit this ’service establishment’ and carry SARS-CoV-2 back to their Wives, Mia-nois, Giks, family, co-workers ????

Maybe the article is incomplete, however, it does give the impression that tracking has stopped with this lady and at a ’som-tam’ party....    what about the men she has spread it to ????

Could Thailands politicians handle another Krystal controversy ?????

Why am I not surprised a typical ,a bunch of lady’s sitting around eating spicy snacks huffing and puffing doing the usual hen party stuff as far as the initial spreader being a hooker is not important or relevant imo I hope all make a full recovery and the lady of the night continues to provide many happy endings whilst providing for her family

That comment could not have been made by anyone with a more appropriate handle.....  ????
