Police in Chiang Mai have arrested a former world ranked tennis professional who with others turned to making a living from an illegal online betting website.

There was 5 million baht in turnover.

Five people were arrested at a luxury house in Chang Pheuak including the "famous star" reported Daily News.

The public had been invited to bet at www.imiheng.com via many Facebook fanpages.

Football, cards, Hi Lo and slots were all available for gamblers.

The police bided their time keeping the house under observation before they got a search warrant.

There were 3,000 user names on the site and the monthly turnover was in excess of 5 million baht.

The tennis star had high hopes of making it big, said the media, after the successes of Thai ace Paradorn Srichaphan who made it into the top ten of world rankings.

But the suspect got an 18 month sentence for illegal gambling activities and was heavily fined.

He was also mixed up in corruption in tennis, a story that reached the BBC amid much amusement.

He then opened the site at the start of this year with the others who were arrested.

No names were reported in the Daily News report.

Seems he couldn't leave the darkside alone... 5 million a month was a good bet... until he got caught.

An unnamed health secretary was last week accused of lying and incompetence by a former aid to an unnamed Prime Minister.

Thai-style reporting if applied in the UK.

Except they mention Paradorn Srichaphan, by his full name and he has NOTHING to do with this crime.
