Golden Goose has long gone for short term rentals in TUrkey it very diffcult now even to let friends or relatives use your property even if there is no payment attached

If you rent property in Turkey the property has to be registered with the local police

Ermm. No. Why when you have so many other EU options. If you're Muslim then turkey is for sure the right country for you as they are getting more and more extreme

I'm thinking Spain. Heard Portugal nice but has issues so it's Spain. I like Spain a lot but food is bland  Wish I could afford Italy.

The food in Spain is some of the best in the world these days, if you are willing to pay real money for it. The average food is just ok. The wine is world class, and reasonable. I hear the standard of living is not cheap, but rent can be reasonable if you are outside the tourist towns, which would suit me fine. I speak decent spanish, and the access to Europe is very appealing. Plus, alot of culture and sophistication. That would be very refreshing. I also hear good things about Portugal. 

 

Turkey would be appealing, for a few months out of the year, but not full time. Also depends if you are single. Many Turks are very secular, and few are extremists, or even sympathize with the nutters. Most people are very cool. Many are very friendly. The southern coast is spectacular. 

 

Granted, the government there is very retrograde. But, by comparison, they make the Thai government look like something out of the middle ages.

To get to know a country you don't have to stop only in the tourist places that are all international without a soul, I traveled all over the country by car, a rather depressing country inside only landscapes bare of vegetation and very insecure towards the east and I think it was a good experience to never return.

 

BTW At a certain point in the trip, in the middle of nowhere, we wanted to buy a carpet and the seller introduced me to his daughter as my future second wife, I preferred to give up the carpet and his generous offer, all the travel I never ask for a carpet.....

I got a taste of the boring interior during my trip there. But I must say Cappadocia during a snow storm was one of the most spectacular travel experiences that I've had in my life.

Absolutely...NOT! Turks have even less common sense/smarts than Thais. From experience...was there in January and Thailand moved up a notch on the STOOPID country meter! Didn't think it possible until this past January! ????

I take it you have never been there Italy is one of the most expensive countries in Europe and has always been so in my experience, the $1 property purchase was for derelict buildings in a rundown rural location, that needed total renovation.

Turkey is a secular country that is predominately Muslim, if it does become a country run by a Muslim government all property owned by infidels would be seized by the government. 

Some friends of mine (???????? people) have chosen Turkey as their retirement refuge. They quite happy, very cheap, beautiful sceneries, very friendly people. No visa problems. Istanbul a lively metropolitan city, despite the ongoing political issues.

Turkey is not like the other islamic countries. During the praying hours almost every mosque is empty, it's a modern country and can wear  anything you like, can drink alcohol freely. Just don't hit hard on Turkish girls like in Thailand.

Wouldn't consider any country where that particular cult prevails.  They fall into extreme levels of violence way too easily for my piece of mind.

One of my alltime favourites and - also to me - the very first thing that popped into my mind when I read "Turkey"... The second one was Erdogan, and my opinion on that piece of (deleted) is not a very favourable one...
