We kids would sometimes follow him and climb the pole to turn the gas off. We were threatened of course, but he never did catch us. Happy days. ha ha I remember the gaslight too on the corner of our street, we would climb the pole and light a fag ,but God help you if you broke the silk mantle , they had a chain on and off 55 1

It used to have a channel switch on the wall behind the window curtain. Later on we got our own affordable portable but still black and white. It had its own aerial so we were able to pick up programs from Harlech TV on a good day. 1

That show put me in touch with a lot of great bands and artists including; Buffy Sainte-Marie, Bob Seger, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, etc ......and Dr Hook before they turned out pop drivel. The show turned to khrap when they started with new wave sounds. I didn't have to sneak downstairs to watch 'whispering' Bob Harris though. I only had to sneak downstairs when mum and dad were asleep to watch late night horror movies. Those were the days eh? Everything on tv seemed better only because at the time you had to pay more attention to the movie or program because if you missed something there was no rewinding or pausing it. And you had no way of knowing if it would be re-shown again possibly 2-3 years later. If it was something on the BBC, which had no adverts, then turning up the volume and pizzing in the kitchen sink would be an option when something really enthralling was on. (not forgetting to lift any plates or dishes left in the sink while pee-ing). 3
