That surely looks like a rehearsal for their departure.

I'm kind of sadly looking forwards to the disaster as it rolls out on the 1st and the angry shop and restaurant owners complaining they aint getting what they were promised.   I'm also waiti

It's sad the rehearsal has  more people than the actual event will.  Will the rehearsal footage be used to claim it was an overwhelming success?

They were heard rehearsing how to say "Ni hao!"

Anyway it may have put a little money in peoples pockets that have not had any coming in recently.

I'm sure the real tourists will be lined up in perfectly straight rows exactly 1.5m from the person in front, just like in the picture.

Seems like years since I've been to the airport what about all the shops and restaurants are they still open?

All they are missing is the circus animals for the grand opening, you couldn't make this stuff up Welcome to Thailand

They'll be more employees than tourists by that picture at the start of the article.

Picture taken on Monday, yellow shirt day.  Good crowd, too bad that they did not get at least a

quick flight to see their island from above.

Well they are in for a shock - The Chinese are not allowed to travel.

Wow...???? When looking at the picture from the rehearsal, do they really expect that many incoming foreign tourists from Europe and USA to come on holiday in July to wear tracking wristband; and no alcohol served; and no pubs open; and with Covid-19 test on arrival, and two more within a fortnight...????

Interesting, from the photo, not one "tourist" is carrying a bucket and spade for the sandbox!!

Reminds me of HomePro.

So much staff and almost zero customers.

The minute you enter the shop they will annoy you every 3 mins., asking if you need any help. And if you actually do need help, they have no clue.......

They should have reached out to the island's expat community. Free COVID jab on the day if you volunteer for this exercise.

It would certainly be more realistic to practice with some curmudgeonly foreigners (both in terms of attitude and language) rather than the meek 'minion army'.

actually, if you zoom in, the first 4 or 5 people stand in line, adequately spaced. If you look behind them, there is a big crowd of people packed in like sardines.
How stupid is that!

wonder do the actors get to 'keep' their ankle shackles, as a memento?

Where is the one, surly looking Immigration officer with an attitude that will be manning the single open station creating an hour long wait before the tourists even get to to disinfection/decontamination and GPS tagging stations?

So sadly true.

Do they train them to stalk you and annoy so much you give up shopping there?

Until the final Phuket Sandbox rules are published in the Royal Gazette (speculated to be about 28 June), why would anyone make any plans to arrive, in Phuket, on 1 July? Already, in the past month, the length of SHA Plus hotel stay has been extended from 7 to 14 days, tracker wristbands are required, transport options are unclear (rental cars?), after going from airport to hotels, etc.

Surely, what's the rush to arrive, on 1 July, when it's better to wait a few days to see the initial results and then decide travel plans. Guaranteed that there will be "adjustments" when 1 July arrives and there is some confusion about implementation of the Sandbox.

Personally I prefer realism in any training so expected to see something like this ...

Could be people that, for whatever reason, went for an STV; arrive after 3 July and can't apply for the extension to the STV (although the covid extension still likely an option).

They upgraded the airport and added a very nice food area on the second floor. However, when the pandemic hit, 75% of those food shops closed down. Hope it reopens.
