BANGKOK (NNT) - The Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) is optimistic about the country’s economic prospects, after the government announced its plan to reopen the country to international tourists and return to normal business conditions by mid-October.

TCC chairman Sanan Angubolkul predicted the reopening will help draw foreign tourists back to the country and provide a boost to the country’s economy by 0.3% this year.

He said the country’s reopening will help Thailand rehabilitate the domestic economy faster, because tourists no longer only travel on weekends and can now work from anywhere. He suggested that the government speed up the promotion of tourism in new areas in various provinces, citing the trend of international tourists wanting to stay in Thailand longer than anticipated.

According to Mr Sanan, Thailand is currently in a rehabilitation period and the 120-day target to reopen the country will help build confidence in the business sector and financial institutions, which are now starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Do these people actually think before opening their mouths, I seriously wonder how these people get well paid important positions when they post such outrageous claims. Any fool & his dog can see that the country is in dire straits with regard to the lack of quality, effective vaccines due to the sheer ineptitude of the Czar and his cronies.

Gawd give me strength.

During an epiphany?.

With no "Covid" private hospital beds available & minimal vaccinations, this guy needs to smoke something before he bursts into song

They get their positions because their Grandmothers Brother or their Mothers half Sister was someone 'important'; it's got nothing to do with what they know !

That's probably not far from the actual truth ????????

I remember the days when we were told that foreign tourism was only of very little importance to the Thai economy.

Sometimes, they can also purchase positions too - doctors, police, pilots, ministry jobs, aircraft maintenance etc.. - nothing too important - usually there is a fixed price based on seniority of the position and what level of previous related experience applicant has from none to not enough..

Vaccinate the general population and get rid of all the stupid, expensive, and troubling restrictions for coming to the country. Then you can re-open and enjoy some extra cash.

I saw already the gardener buying the title of a pilot and the 7/11 girl becoming a Dr.

yep they were only saying that early last year weren't they ?

Thais definitely don't know what's going on out there.  New variants are comeback in Europe, America and Australia. I would suggest that they open theirs eyes.

Meanwhile, the Thai Labor Secretary reportedly said "The unemployment rate is expected go down when more people get jobs".

It is just amazing.  Where can they possibly find people with the intellect to be able to determine that re-opening will boost the country's economy.   Move over Milton Friedman, John Kenneth Galbraith, and John Maynard Keynes.  The Nobel Prize for economist certainly will be awarded to someone from the Thai Chamber of Commerce.

A rehabilitation period?  Is that like when you burn down a building and it is being reconstructed?  The only light at the end of the tunnel that the Thai business community and workers have seen is the headlight of an oncoming train wreck.

It never ceases to amaze me how governments can absolutely destroy something and then have the audacity to beat their chests that their policies will save everyone from the destruction their original policies caused.

Why do these people always state the obvious........ My 10yr old Son could have told you that... ????

And from my 'Chamber of Pressure Relief', I expect it to go the other way!

I hear it said that the top guy in the chamber has a degree, it's a degree in Stating the Bleeding Obvious.

I am sure he's not the only one though.
