Given chunks of Bangkok had run out of hospital beds, so have stopped testing, you have to wonder how many cases we would have been seeing today if they had carried on as usual?

Please don't compare those countries to Thailand.

I don't mean covid. I mean infrastructure etc. Talk about apples and oranges.

Perhaps I misunderstood your question, or you misunderstood my statement.

what I said was:

”Well, if asymptomatic, the solution in other countries is isolation by way of house quarantine. Whether that can be made to work here en masse, I don’t know, but that is what has been done elsewhere.”

the point was to illustrate what the alternative is to placing people in field “hospitals”, if those “hospitals” get full.

you asked me what other countries used house quarantine as a system, did you not? I gave you a list.

I’m not quite sure what infrastructure or fruit have to do with it? But to be way out in left field, Thai people have houses, the government has an army, what else is needed for house quarantine?

That’s being silly I know, but you asked for a list of countries who use house quarantine for isolation purposes and I gave you one. I had already indicated that I did not know if it would work in Thailand in my OP, so I’m  not really prepared to engage in a debate on that, there is far too little data to make any informed comment.

Another day goes by with too low a figure

The PM just now announced no lockdown for Bangkok.

Mmmm! Wonder if we'll see numbers back in the low 2k soon? PM: "It's under control. No need for lockdown. I was right." I am being synicle or do I expect number fudging?

I bash him as much as anyone. Somehow I think he has backed himself into a corner.

The sandbox thing took on life of its own.

Talk about tail wagging the dog.

Stuffed now. Think Phuket will be ok but Bangkok heading for rough ride (imo).

If I was his PR man I would suggest put every effort into the vaccines and SHOW some success stories meaning actual vaccine deliveries. That might buy him some time.

In the meantime test as little as possible for the 'fudge' to work.

Yes, those two, plus UK, Singapore, Australia, USA, “Europe”, S Korea, Taiwan, China.

TBH, I am not aware of any other country that puts asymptomatic people in a “hospital”. I’m sure there are some, but every country with which I am familiar, tells its citizens to stay at home and isolate in a room, if asymptomatic.

I did say that I don’t know if it’s possible here en masse, but afaik, it is standard practice in pretty much most of the world.

agreed with the above...many people I know in UK had Covid and they were given a pulse oximeter and told to call an ambulance if it reached a certain (low) level.

I just don't see these daily "published" figures rising above certain levels, as it would create an impression that things are getting out of control

yes I agree because these self appointed fools are more interested in their own interests and face than the interests of the country as a whole, little do they realise they would be more respected if they actually told the truth rather than these constant deflections and lies

If this virus continues the path it is on in Thailand - variants will spread massively and they will have no option but to totally lock the country down taking us back 12 months - Thailand will be red listed across the world with governments banning all travel to Thailand, I honestly see no other way forward unless foreign countries suddenly start donating tens of millions of effective vaccines to Thailand and they pull out all the stops to vaccinate everyone as fast as possible

Time to get the begging bowl out and appeal across the world for vaccines before this country turns into another India - or maybe even worse

What is the current betting on the numbers suddenly dropping as Phuket will open soon, but in reality the numbers being fudged by the Government!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!to ensure that Thailand looks good....

The number of people in severe condition or on ventilators has been increasing steadily this week. Sadly this will most likely lead to an increase in deaths

ICU/VENTILATORS:

Sat: 1,343/383

Sun: 1,374/390

Mon: 1,436/395

Tue: 1,479/410

Wed: 1,526/433

Thu: 1,564/445

Fri: 1,603/460

https://twitter.com/RichardBarrow/status/1408302127328292866

Of the 107 known clusters in Bangkok, 89 have reported cases in the past 14 days including 35 in worker camps, 22 at businesses and factories, 17 around markets and shopping centres, 12 in residential areas, two at care homes and one at a naval academy.

So for those genuine tourists that are coming to Phuket for a few weeks holiday and need to go home and get back to work they will face 2 things if Thailand drops to the Red

- forced quaratine in a hotel with a hefty bill £1600 per person

- unable to work for at least a futher 2 weeks

Government advise is still to avoid overseas travel so they have only themselves to blame

I think if the UK assessed Thailand as Red most other western countries would follow

I really dont see the need for thee UK to assess Thailand as a Red Flag Zone at all.

Thailand  has done that for them, with all the reports of Vaccine shortages Etc, any Tourist with some kind of Brain between the Ears is going to look at all the Negatives, and decide to go to Spain, or the Lake District.

Good that he took the time to list the increases, they are the important numbers and show just how serious its getting. I'm assuming they are now having to send many ICU patients to surrounding provinces due to the shortages, thats the only way they can cope in Bangkok.

Along with these numbers:

- 2,803 were found at medical facilities

- 648 via pro-active tests at known clusters

Just getting worse daily and those found via active testing down.

All ok here? NOT. Still no plan has been announced an how they intent to manage this outbreak, at least in other countries the officials have tried to put in a solid exit scenario and how they intend to get there. Here nothing, just suck it and see.

Last time it started to stack up like this here in Bangkok they built more field hospital units including opening up the large center across from MTT at the convention center.  They even discussed adding more beds and expanding to other areas as well as creating additional ICU facilities inside Hospitels.  What happened to these plans, did they run out of money and medical staff.  If that is what has happened then we are definitely in dire straights here in Bangkok and we have just only now scratched the surface.  They are definitely using the bubble and seal strategy as the GF's relatives are locked into a factory they worked in in Bangg Phli

seems the command centre are taking a 2000baht cut per test

800b is most likely a rapid antigen test not a PCR test. The cost of PCR testing has skyrocketed due to the demand and availability of the raw materials.

In Australia they were originally paying the labs $27 per test that has blown out to nearly $100 due to supply costs then there is the labor for the staff doing the swabs too.
