SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Zuellig Pharma, Moderna's supply partner for COVID-19 vaccines in Southeast Asia, said on Tuesday that regional orders for the mRNA vaccine were almost fully booked for this year, highlighting procurement challenges for countries slow off the mark.

Singapore-headquartered Zuellig is involved in the distribution, regulatory approvals and purchase contracts for Moderna Inc's vaccines for use in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

"A lot of the transactions that are being done today will be for 2022 ... because the supply of Moderna vaccine is pretty much exhausted already for 2021," Zuellig CEO John Graham told Reuters.

Graham said there will be some availability towards the end of this year.

"But one should assume that if you're starting to negotiate today, you're looking at 2022 before you get any supply," he added.

Still, the situation could change depending the supply dynamics, he said.

Procurement efforts in the region have been hastened by a coronavirus flare-up in recent months that has exacerbated stubborn epidemics in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines and tested authorities in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Singapore, where earlier outbreaks had been quickly contained.

Graham declined to provide specifics on negotiations or deals, citing confidentiality.

Singapore, the Philippine, Thailand and Taiwan are among those that have sought or signed deals for Moderna or have already begun receiving vaccine batches.

"There are also countries that are already purchasing vaccine for booster (shots) in 2022-2023," he added. "There's a race to get the supply."

Time to fine tune your social distancing skills for the coming months now that Delta is upon us.

Good luck getting people to pre-pay now.

"Singapore, the Philippine, Thailand and Taiwan are among those that have sought or signed deals for Moderna or have already begun receiving vaccine batches."

Other recent reports indicated that Thailand wanted 10 million by the end of the year but only got a committment for 5 million to be delivered by that date with the rest coming in 1Q 2022.

Seems to me that 5 million doses should be more than enough to cover those willing to pay the 3,400 baht.

That's a plausible take, but yesterday's story said the contract has not been wrapped up yet.  I think I will wait for some clarification before plunking down my money.

I don't think that was a bus he ever had any interest in catching.

My wife registered me and paid the deposit online for Moderna yesterday for Chularat Hospital which has many locations just outside of BKK.

the website is all in Thai and it was difficult to pay but she got it done and I now have (theoretically) reserved 2 shots of Moderna.

well done, please report back on how your vaccination experience was in March or April 2022.

My wife called 2 hospitals in Khon Kaen today. One said no reservation needed, just come October. Bangkok Hospital said yes you can register but they are waiting for their app to be finished, a few days. I just went on the Bangkok hospital website and there is nothing really there about it apart from some blurb saying at the time of the particular update they were not authorized to procure or administer their own vaccines, could have been an older post though.

Moderna adverts are posted on Bangkok Hospital website and Facebook pages. Email just came in from Bangkok Hospital Pattaya.

Note: if you want, you can choose to reserve one dose rather than two.

My wife just called out local Khon Kaen Ram they quoted her 4200 for 2 injections. They just can't help themselves

Just tried to purchase. LINE Shop says Sold Out.

I'm guessing that means the shopping cart isn't functional yet, or that it is overwhelmed at the moment. We'll see.

May I ask, how did you/your wife make the payment? Did you have to scan/take picture of the payment slip then upload the pic to their website in order to really make the reservations (for 2 shots?)
