Daily News reported from the Rojana branch of Makro yesterday saying there had been a large number of shoppers since morning.

This after it was announced in the Government Gazette that the province of Ayutthaya was to enter tougher Covid-19 restrictions from Tuesday including at 9 pm to 4 am curfew in line with other "deep red zone" areas.

There were large lines at checkouts as people stocked up on fresh and dry produce.

Convenience stores were also doing a lively trade.

Meanwhile the provincial police chief Pol Maj-Gen Naradech Thiprak said that he would be working with the department of provincial administration to inform the public on what they can and can't do.

He said there will be a softly-softly approach at first that will examine whether people are deliberately trying to flout the law or just caught unawares.

At first? Reads to me like regular police work.

I thought supermarkets were allowed to open during the unrestricted daylight hours for food purchase ?

Why the panic buying?

A pointless risk to everyone who crowded in there yesterday.

Supermarkets will never close, not even in a full lockdown.

They may decide to only sell what they deem to be essential items, but that will be as far as any restrictions will go.

Anyone with any form of common sense will wait until these shops are less crowded and then stock up.

When you addict to alcohol, (NO, I'm NOT), then it can be very essential to the person who like to buy.
