By Claire Reid

The only Westerner to ever escape from a notorious Thai prison has revealed that an umbrella was key to his success.

David McMillan, who was born in London, had a '40-year career' as a drug smuggler, which took him all around the world.

But an admitted 'career lowlight' was when he was sentenced to death by firing squad in Thailand after being convicted of trafficking heroin.

He was sent to the notorious maximum security Klong Prem Central prison in Bangkok, which houses up to 20,000 inmates across numerous buildings.

I wonder if Lad Bible would be so keen to promote this convicted drug dealer's book, if he were a convicted pedophile.  Seems that peddling drugs that cause misery and death is OK to profit from.  Double standards here IMHO.

He wrote the original book years ago and has talked about it at length on his YT channel. Whatever the evils of drug smuggling a very intelligent and engaging character. David was to be extradited from the UK back to Thailand, think he was held in Wandsworth prison. Even though the death penalty was being held over him the UK decided he was being sent back, only a few years ago. At the last minute having won the legal battle the Thais dropped the case and did not peruse his return after all, That has never been explained as far as I know.

there is an interview with him on yt, how he lived and how escaped - he had a lot of money to bribe prison guards, probably up to prison director. He has used a ladder. An umbrella was just to melt into a crowd

Been other research that shows the same. The war on drugs is lost we need to do a new thing banning does not help. But people need to realize that alcohol is a drug too and really damaging especially causing aggression. So i don't get it when people defend alcohol but think other drugs are evil.

So are tea and coffee.

Tea, coffee and alcohol are usually legal. Heroin isn't.

your excusing and defending a heroin trafficker  .......    I find that hard to comprehend.

Everyone knows right from wrong .....  and heroin trafficking is wrong  ,    ( in anyone's language )

having a beer is not.

My late friends ,Samantha and Conrad, decided to try pure heroin. To make matters worse - both had young children.

The felon sold deadly poison, so he deserved capital punishment.

How many people high on heroin have killed other people ?

How many people high on alcohol have killed other people ?

You need to get you priorities straight - the War on Drugs is a total failure. Never before have drugs been so pure, so readily available, and so cheap.

Why - the War on Drugs is the reason - and the huge amount of money that can be made. THAT is the reason.

Not to mention the millions of lives lost, families torn apart, people doing life for a bag of marijuana, while rapists and murderers do 5 years or so.

Your Neanderthal viewpoint helps nobody.

Alcohol is legal - this makes it all right ? That some Politician decided it is legal makes it OK ?

Did anyone force them to take it, their choice to try pure heroin which nobody would even recommend.

Or even worse…. Like another famous heroin smuggler, he deserves to have been made a member of the PM’s cabinet. That would have really taught him a lesson.

I think we agree that we both disagree on this one .....  each to his own.

Yes but that is just a definition, had alcohol been compared and based on its damaged judged it would have to be banned like all the other drugs. So why is it that alcohol has so many defenders while the effects are worse.

So many people seem to think that alcohol and drugs are different they are the same. Some people become alcoholics just like some people become addicts. Some people commit violence when drunk (actually alcohol is known for the most violence of all) and some do that when high. Not everyone who does drug ends up on the street, many are just like alcohol users normal people. Why is that. Because they are the same.

Yet in the perception of many die hards like Steven100 when you take a XTC tablet or smoke a joint your hooked for life. While a glas of beer is relaxing and good. But fact is that both can do the same to some people. Its just that there is a sub class of people who can't handle any of this. Same like the dad that drinks the families money away in the pub you got druggies doing the same. Hell on Thaivisa you see people constantly talking about the cheapest beer to fuel their habbit.

So why waste money on drug enforcement when if you legalize it you will have more money to spend on healthcare. We should focus on those that cant handle it not on those that can. I don't care if someone is drunk or high as long as they behave im ok with it. Its those that don't behave that are the problem. In Portugal it worked well. In my country it works well (no not all drugs are legal).

So its time to either ban alcohol with the other drugs or allow other drugs too. No more double standards for substances that do the same thing.

Then its ok.. its called double standards.

Yeah, that's kinda the point about the double standard.

Although, i never heard, "He was all effed up on Earl Grey (or Starbuck's) and crossed the white line and killed a whole family".

So I think tea and coffee don't belong in the same category as alcohol.

Alcohol and tobacco are legal only because the governments can make a ton of money out of them on taxes.

If there was a drug smuggler and a kiddie fiddler up against the wall, which one would you shoot first?

Of course why else, i mean science says they are equally damaging as other drugs. So risk wise it makes no sense. Anyway I just post here because a lot of alcohol drinkers seem to have the idea touch drugs once your an addict but never seem to worry about becoming an alcoholic. I mean its th same thing as an addict and it just happens to a smal portion of users of all drugs. Alcohol is no better or worse then others. We had a fishing village in the Netherland hard workers no problems but they did a lot of cocaine. So how is that different then alcohol. They worked hard during the week blew of steam with coke in the weekends. As long as they did not harm anyone it was the same as alcohol.

maybe he can give me some tips on how to escape from Hua Hin.
