What is very important to understand here is not just COVID patients will be dying at home.  Non COVID patients will be dying at home too because there is no health care to rely on now.

Just a flu right?

Wow when they are stating this then it must really be bad. I mean for a Thai to admit publicly that there is a problem is almost unheard of. (i mean when they are responsible and in government)

If this is the case, then restrict the number of booking per day and as I stated, spaced out chairs would solve the problem.

Open up more vaccination centers not only in the capital but other provinces.  They can do it with field hospitals, so why can't they do it with vacc centers?

Not surprised seeing images like this yesterday.

I really want to understand and empathize with Thailand's vaccination program but I really can't. These images are difficult to process.

Yes some still see it as just a flu and the closing as bars as a moral punishment. These guys have no clue about what will happen if this goes on. Its not just covid deaths but also others that can't be treated.

My dad is a heart patient in the Netherlands and for a while no other operations were done as there were no beds. Many many other operations postponed same will be happening here but worse.

Not to mention anyone that goes near people in this situation, neighbours/family trying to help etc. Room ventilation is not good within many of the older city tenements.

Absolutely correct.

Plus cancer screening too.  They say that there will be a wave of cancer patients dying in the next few years because of inadequate screening.

Thailand is not getting out of this for a long long long time.  The vaccines coming in are not enough to get out of this right now.  The W.H.O has stated over and over again that you cannot vaccinate yourself out of a wave.

This is not good.  I was hopeful that they were going to drop but it doesn't appear so yet.

More like 56% of the target 70% of the population as counted in the 2010 census.

No, the 56% one-shot figure they're using for Bangkok is based on their figure for the total population, not the 70% target. But the total population figure they're using is artificially low.

GF had an appointment scheduled for Tomorrow with her specialist doctor here in BKK, was just informed that the doctor is now in quarantine/isolation at home as one of his recent patients tested positive for Covid a day after seeing him.  Was told she will be rescheduled but they are now going to require her and all patients to be Covid tested and be able to show a negative test result before the re-scheduled appointments once the doctor can return to work himself.  No the doctor is not infected at this point but the precautions are being taken.

Government or private hospital doing that?

They say they're jabbing about 20,000 people per day at the Bang Sue location... which is the largest vax center in Thailand right now...  And, it shows...from the photos!

But the way they've been (mis) handling the logistics there.... I can't understand. The government said the other day that Thais from outlying provinces have been rushing there lately to try to get a walk-in vaccination, before the walk-in process ends at the end of this month.

Via Google Translate:

1:10 p.m. Standing for 5 minutes is already a risk. This has to stand for more than 1-2-3 hours, still not clear. to solve the problem how overwhelming people Some people return to their homes during the lockdown period. Now back to vaccination.

I still think these are walk ins. Not sure when walk ins finish and appointments start but both @DrJack54and myself had 4:00pm appointments although the pic from @DrJack54from yesterday showerd way more people than I experienced Sunday. Guess they are ramping things up without an eye to the consequences of a super spreading site.

Private hospital, and they will be setting up the appointment for her in a drive thru setting.  Looks like they will be paying for it as well.  GF just showed me the Line app conversation.

I'd guess nobody really knows the current population of Bangkok. Many Thais who lost their jobs in Bangkok returned to their home provinces to sit out the pandemic, but the question is, how many? I've never seen any number, and of course people come and go all the time, so whatever they guesstimate would be suspect.

Dr. Manop cited the immunogenicity study, published in the Nature Medicine journal, which was a comparative study between two cohorts, one administered with viral vector AstraZeneca (AZ) and one of the two mRNA vaccines, Pfizer or Moderna, and another administered with two doses of Pfizer or Moderna.

And who cares here? To get any benefit from this we'd need 70 million AZ, 70 million of Pfizer/Moderna and the capacity to make 25 million shots a month. None of which we have.

That's great but remember these people have next to zero immunity from this for 2 weeks and you need two shots to be effective against the variants.

In other words this isn't going to truly help right now.

There are official figures, as I posted with weblinks above, including the government's own 2010 Census report and its chart below:

Yet another unforced error by a government that has been committing a seemingly endless stream of mistakes.  Mistakes that to most of our eyes make us wonder "<deleted> were they thinking??!!?".  And this by public health officials who are supposed to know what they are doing, well, at least better than most of us here.  What's just as disturbing is that the people in this massive crowd don't seem to understand the dangerous situation they are in.  Knowing the way that this government has been administering vaccines, it's more likely that they walked away with an infection instead of a jab.

so no detailed info, how provinces and districts are doing, situation with available beds, including field and hospitel.

But they jump strait that they vax policy is right and quote german research. The difference is, that thailand won't have mRNA vax until the end of year, contracts were signed just the last week for moderna and pfizer.

How they can count on them now?

That is very remote perspective in a dier situation we are here now.

People are taking any vax available, there is no choice till the next year

The 1.5 million Pfizer doses donated by the U.S. are supposed to arrive later this week, with 10% of those set aside for older foreign nationals.  The government isn't buying those, but they're still getting some mRNA doses in the immediate future.

Re Vax at Bang Sue for 60+ folk:

The pic you post is accurate. I was there yesterday and your also correct in that well over 95% are Thai. There was a lot of wheelchair folk and thinking that the 75+ age group were grabbing the walk in option at this time.

The pic shows the 'stand up' area which indeed is bad on the social distancing.

The place is massive and extremely well staffed. It's not a stand around job doing the crowd control. They work very hard and it's very well organized.

From what another poster mentioned re his experience, I'm thinking that yesterday was quite busy.

So I entered at 3.30 (4pm appointment) and walked out at 5.

I would recommend any 60+ farang to jump on board.

If anyone wants to go to the extreme of traveling from outside of Bangkok that would work. I was asked where I live at the paperwork section and I simply answered Din Daeng. No proof required.

Good luck all.

So for walk-ins right now, they're not really enforcing the BKK plus 5 adjoining provinces supposed rule?

The government said on Monday, I believe, that the TOTAL cumulative number of foreigners vaccinated at Bang Sue as of that date was only about 2,300+.

To me, that seems like a surprisingly small number, but I know, many farangs in Bangkok instead ended up registering and going to Phyathai II and Medpark Hospitals, which probably are less of a zoo-like setting than Bang Sue.

Deaths and case numbers are moving upwards again.  The question is are the numbers from Phetcahbun included or not.  Guess we will have to wait until this afternoon to see the provincial breakdowns. Not buying the 56% of Bangkok's residents being vaccinated. Seems a little high to me with the numbers of vaccinations they are doing daily.

they call vaccinated one dose which is not correct

The central vaccination unit at Bang Sue Grand Station in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district will remain open, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha made it clear to public health officials during a meeting via videoconference on Tuesday.

“The Bang Sue vaccination centre will continue providing jabs to people who have preregistered online. It will rearrange vaccination areas and employ social distancing practices to prevent crowding,” Prayut said.

OMG - that is horrendous - if you didn't have covid before going here it pretty much almost certain you have it leaving - WHAT ARE THEY THINKING

Starting from tomorrow at 9am, the following groups of people can register with their phone operators for a vaccination appointment at Bang Sue Grand Station:

Aged 18+

Aged 60+ and those with 7 underlying conditions It is not known yet if foreigners can take part.

Very well said.

And well done to everyone who is 'doing their bit'. Donations, food hand outs, whatever.

It is a shame that the government is not so caring about most of the Thai people.

Correct. So the process amounts to step 1 seek out staff that take you to a desk. You show your SMS that confirms your booking. That SMS is sent evening of day prior to appointment. They give you basic one page sheet to fill in. Name etc and health questions. Are you pregnant etc.

Next is they direct you to queue.

The queuing system is to take you from section to section 3 times.

They you get to sit down section. Far less crowded. That's where you do the paperwork. That is nothing really but takes quite some time to do. Just the usual fascinating with paperwork.

They don't look at stamps etc. Just your photo page passport.

They ask you where you live. I caused confusion as I was trying to tell them my detailed address. Finally realized that they just wanted district. Ding Daeng did it.

Next you go to jab section. That's very quick and we'll organized.

You then go for observation (I skipped that). On your paperwork (one sheet) you are given a date for next jab. Same joint. Same time. I was given Oct 19.

Bang Sue MRT at the door so great for commuter. BTW the MRT was empty...ish both ways.
