Not sure I understand - it Thaksin had passed such a law surely he would not be "guilty" now. I think you are getting confused with the Junta after the coup.

And how all the ultra royalists and the yellow shirts screamed and  took to the streets and rioted over that over that. I wonder if they will do the same for this lot?

  • One does not need an amnesty if innocent..... the travesty is them getting away with being guilty.

And it starts. Wasn't an amnesty bill the topic which submarined Yinglucks tenure.  Pun intended by the way.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha and Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul would be exempt from any future prosecution.   And there's people on here wondering why people are protestin

No

Well isn't that nice of them to help themselves that way?

It forgets to mention the total botching of the pandemic the second time around as well. But I'm sure that's covered.

Among other things, the amnesty probably is to protect people engaged in corruption from prosecution and to allow them keep their ill-gotten gains.

There is one hope, a future, properly elected, government, overturns these "amnesty" laws, and prosecutes the guilty.

That will not occur as the guaranteed places in the parliament for the military appointees is enshrined in legislation, so any future election cannot get rid of all the regime.

 Amazing Thailand TIT

Only guilty people hide behind Amnesties.

Woooow. Can't make that <deleted> up. TiT.

Actually they can and frequently do...

If they pass that law there really will be trouble on the streets.

Screwed everything up from day one and absolve themselves of all blame .... sick.

History being replayed. They must have overlooked that their replacements can enact legislation to repeal previous legislation, including this proposed bit of dirt.

Anuthin, who appropriately is nicknamed Noo (Rat) is heir to a major construction company fortune. His family's company, Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction PCL, built several government mega-projects such as Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. An engineer, Anuthin served as president of Sino-Thai.

His has over the years been a member of many political parties such as the National Development Party, Thai Rak Thai Party and as leader of the Bhumjaithai Party.  This man is a self serving rat who flip flops from red to yellow as and when it suits him and his cronies.

JAF

Other than being appointed based on his family connections, I wonder if he has ever accomplished anything on his own, other than helping to decimate the Thai economy with his massive bungling of the vaccine effort, and the battle against Covid, which knocked this tiny chap out one minute into the first round of the fight, and left him on the canvas, gasping for air, beaten, bruised, nearly blind, and helpless.

He has personally stated in an interview "my priorities are to reduce health expenditures, increase revenue, make people healthy, and make the nation wealthy.

Hah. You have failed at 4 or 4. Loser!

Have they done something illegal? I thought they hadn't done anything!

Me thinks:
- all possible purchases and pocket-lining accomplished
- nobody has anything under control anymore
- the culprits are preparing for a tidy exit

Lets see; I - for one - smell a big, big rat and letting Anutin and Prayut jump would throw back this country into medieval days. They knew EXACTLY what they were doing and if all was done in the best interest of the country, then nobody needs any amnesty. Latter being also quite fashionable among their African and South American friends who are equally dedicated to the cause!

Obviously most of you on here have no idea what actually happened.

The decisions made on vaccine supply & delays in ordering from overseas came from

way above the Health Minister & PM's head

Reliable source?

Or just the usual bla bla, aka BS?

Outrageous to spend time and resources drafting a bill to protect yourself from responsibility for your failures. Failures that left your citizens vulnerable.

How any reasonable Thai can  continue to defend this administration is unfathomable.

unfortunately, those who do support it also remain immune from any responsibility.

Anutin defends amnesty bill, says necessary to protect doctors

Right, seem to have heard this excuse before about an other amnesty. It was also not made for Thaksin nobody believed that and nobody will believe this. Its scary how similar Thaksin clones and the Prayut government are.

YL did not pull it off, lets hope the generals can't pull it off either. If Anutin and Prayut were honest they would exclude themselves from this law. That is as likely as hell freezing over.

Isn't that just the way Thailand is, its not my fault, l didn't do that, l didn't say that, lt wasn't me, l would not do that, you misunderstood what l said, l think it was him, its under investigation, we moved him to inactive post, l not tell lie, l take care of you, welcome to Thailand

So this is part of the current Thai civil law -- Wrongful Acts

Section 420.
A person who, willfully or negligently, unlawfully injures the life, body, health, liberty, property or any right of another person, is said to commit a wrongful act and is bound to make compensation therefore.

If there was no amnesty to the upper level honchos, you think a case in court would stick?

When the cabinet refused to recite the entire oath of office and left off the bit about upholding the constitution.

Actually I was pro junta and against that amnesty just like I am against this amnesty. An amnesty is wrong period no matter what side. But its really the epitome of hypocrisy for this government to do this after having removed the Thaksin clone for doing the same (among other things).

I hope this never comes to pass but given that this government has more power it just might ????

Its amazing how similar the two governments are both think the populace is stupid and pretend the amnesty is not there for certain persons but for general benefit.  While everyone knows that YL wanted Thaksin free and this is just to protect Prayut and Anutin.

Blind loyalty is a powerful elixir - regardless of where it manifest.

Conflating medical staff and politicians seems to be an obvious blind; in any case, I doubt medical staff have anything to fear, as they're just following best practice, in so far as they are aware.

Well, I really hope you've learned your lesson. The only chance for Thailand to evolve is for the cycle of coups to be broken.

The lesson i learned is that they are all crooked, and you can't evolve when everyone is crooked. Don't you find it scary how much they all have the same mistakes and same disrespect of the populace.

I just don't support anyone anymore (perhaps future forward) because all of them are big crooks PTP or Junta. No matter who they all do the same stuff.
