Nearly one million tablets of the Favipiravir antiviral drug are being consumed per day by COVID-19 patients in Thailand, according to the Public Health Ministry, as new records of infections are being set daily, with new high of 23,418 cases reported today (Friday).

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said yesterday that the ministry has assigned the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) to import more Favipiravir tablets, to accommodate the surge in demand.

Thailand currently has 15 million tablets of the drug in stock. 120 million tablets are to be delivered in August and September, while 100 million more tablets are scheduled to arrive between October and December, he said.

From China by any chance?

You'd have to say that China could see this disease as the greatest boost to their economy ever - spread the disease, sell a 'reported' cure, sell tablets, destroy every economy on the planet apart from their own, buy the foreign debt, etc

I cannot see any reason why another likewise pandemic would not be good for them.

Is it being taken/used in any other countries?

No but Ivermectin for humans is in many countries but very hard to find in Thailand unless you are a dog ,pig. or horse.

What stops you from using the vetinary version of Ivermectin? It will be just as safe - and equally useless against Covid - as the version made for humans.

If it worked, there would be money to be made...

I don’t think I need to tell the doctors anything as there are credible studies into its use being carried out after the initial favourable study came into question.

Tell that to my sister, she took the Ivermectin for a horse and couldn't get off the toilet for 2 days

Did she adjust the dosage, assuming that she isn't as heavy as a horse?

On a more serious note, considering that diarrhea is a common symptom of Covid, maybe it wasn't caused by Ivermectin, but by Covid.

It does work ,but it's been out for 40 years Merck gave up the pattern in 1996 so anyone can make it.I guess it is like aspirin cheap to buy.

I'm still waiting for a credible study that shows that favipiravir is an effective treatment, for any category of Covid patients.

You have better things to do with your time than wait for something that is never going to happen.

That must be hitting the reserves...

I'm not a scientist or doctor but I can't confirm the effectiveness of Favipiravir elsewhere. Anybody know?

Hydroxychloroquine? Ivermectin?

Worms say they work .....

Favipiravir is listed at 1.38 USD per tablet.  So 1.38 Million USD per day.  Seems it may have been cheaper to spend big on vaccines some months back.  Not to mention the complete destruction of the economy.

Nothing is every effective, but it's quite clear for anybody who knows what he is talking about that favipiravir just like Ivermective and any other meds used around the world can help if used very early and not when virus is already well installed as they did in EU research (retarded idiots).
