Aggressively nudged by Covid-19, is Walking Street as a fleshpot nightlife zone permanently finished? Or are reports of its death greatly exaggerated?

Refer to the following article for context.

Pattaya’s Walking Street refit now depends on China - Pattaya Mail

Quote

The waterfront soul of traditional Pattaya is about the same size as Vatican City even if the similarity ends there. But the bars and clubs of Walking Street have been shuttered for months and parts look scheduled for demolition. The Pattaya local authority has already stated that the dozens of premises jutting into the sea will not be able to renew their entertainment licences as they are illegal structures.

It's a good poll.................I would have ticked a multiple choice box of 'not yet, but will be in a few years, dears' .....................It's too prime an area really for the flesh trade with the big plans for the city and the street is soooh 20th Century anyway.....time to move on (plenty of other zones anyways) and I think the 'in your face' nightlife as we know Pattaya for will slowly but surely go behind closed doors with alot less emphasis on the scantily clad parading their wares 'n all out front...............not so great for the old timers, but corporate business and the big plans for the city and the Eastern Seaboard in general will win over any attempt by locals with influence to cling on to their fiefdoms.......................

This has been on the cards for a while, though, hasn't it?  Previous half-hearted efforts to clean the place up fizzled, as things often do here due to local control self-interests, cops, corruption, etc., but feels like the writing's been on the wall for a while now.

The continuing economic fallout from COVID is a fortuitous event in this regard.  I think it'll happen, and possibly more quickly than anyone would have thought possible.  Never let a good crisis go to waste.

Dark Side is going to undergo changes - good for commercial rental property owners, but probably not welcomed by long-term residents out there.

The people saying yes it's closed for good are just depressed and negative

Or maybe they don't give a jot as they have their own haunts and prefer to keep away from the madding crowd.......................

Not "closed for good" but it's got as much chance for a come back for girls as the promenade does. Both scenes are going, going... This beach project is well and truly underway. Long gones. https://thepattayanews.com/2020/09/10/160-million-baht-pattaya-beach-renovation-to-be-started-at-the-end-of-this-year/

The similarity by no means ends there.....

Even in Pattaya, unlike Vatican law, 14 is too young to marry.

100% it will come back strong, Walking St is a magnet for tourists, Pattaya needs it, many other sois people couldn't care less

I guess its going to come down to which side is going to prevail: The elites who have been ashamed of the rap Thailand and especially Pattaya have had. And they do not need the revenue from this business at all. And on the other side the local "influences"  And I don't think they are one and same at all. So who is more likely to prevail ? Sure it could come back strong but again not prostitution related
