Popular Post webfact Posted October 11, 2021 Popular Post Posted October 11, 2021 File photo: REUTERS/Chalinee Thirasupa/ The latest poll in Thailand indicated that the majority of Thais don't want current Thai PM Prayuth Chan-ocha to cling onto power past 2022. Nida Poll asked questions related to Prayuth's tenure, the dissolution of parliament and elections and changes to the cabinet. On the question as to whether eight years in power was enough 40.73% said he should resign by August next year. 38.37% said it should be cleared up by the constitutional court meaning he would then be forced to leave. Only 15.03% thought he should just stay on and go with the flow. On the dissolution of parliament 40.35% wanted it done quickly. 30.05% wanted it done after changes to the elction law. 22.12% thought Prayuth should complete a full four year term after the 2019 election. 5.72% said before next year. On changes to the cabinet 50.34% wanted a big reshuffle. 18.92% just called for a reshuffle. The rest wanted changes to two specific positions. A total of 1,311 Thais aged 18+ from all social strata nationwide were polled from October 5th to 8th. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2021-10-11 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates 12 8
Popular Post ThailandRyan Posted October 11, 2021 Popular Post Posted October 11, 2021 Wait, wasn't there another poll done recently where the majority wanted him to stay in power as he was the one they believed to be the most competent at moving them forward from Covid. I am just a little confused obviously. The man and his cabinet need to go as well as the unelected senate. Fair elections need to be held and when you look at the time the man has truly been in power he will have reached the maximum amount of time allowed to be Prime Minister and that is 8 years, be it elected or unelected. Otherwise he would become just like Cambodia's leader, China's leader and of course eventually Myanmar's leader....all dictators. 24 1

ALLSEEINGEYE Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 I am all for a change of govt. here I just don't want to see anyone affiliated with the Taksin clan to ever be back in power here. I've been here 20 years and remember how they messed up Thailand. It would be a huge step backwards. There must be a better option. 6
BestB Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 Kind of funny when just a few weeks ago same poll was suggesting vast majority support current government and Prayut and have full confidence. I guess to get an impartial opinion it helps to speak with impartial people 1

I have been coming to/working on and offshore and living in Thailand since 1993 and I can honestly say that when Thaksin was legally elected as PM in Thailand, not just once but twice, Thailand was a far richer and happier place for 99% of the Thais and for most o the expats and tourists. The only way that he was defeated, was by a military coup in the same way that Yingluck was defeated and by the military supported by the ultra royalist yellow shirts. 23 2

Oh you are very wrong on that aspect as our opinions do matter. However, as for as expats having the ability to do something about those opinions we have well then that is a whole another issue, and you would be right to say that we can not do anything about it as a matter of fact.. 4
kingstonkid Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 The problem with him leaving is wh do they replace him with. It seems that Thais have not learned form past mistakes. They still really have only 2 parties to choose from and neither is exactly what you want. To be honest I am surprised that a new version of the FFF has not started and built it's power base. 2

CLW Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 I don't get it. The majority wants immediate changes but whichever group calls out for mass protests to oust the current goverment only a dozen people show up....
